Two of Alaska’s leading LGBTQ activist groups are coming to the defense of Anchorage Assemblyman Felix Rivera who is facing a recall effort.

Earlier this month, Rivera appeared on a Zoom meeting with liberal supporters to raise money for a lawsuit that was recently filed on his behalf against the Municipality of Anchorage. The goal is to get the courts to force the city to reject a recall effort which is now gathering signatures to put the question before voters.

On Wednesday the Alaska Democrats LGBTQ Caucus is partnering with Alaskans Together for Equality to raise money for Rivera’s legal battle. The online event claims Rivera has been “unfairly targeted by a recall effort.” The LGBTQ groups note that Rivera has “worked hard for us and now he needs out help.”

Rivera has made a name for himself by pushing a radical leftist agenda that includes a controversial LGBTQ platform and support for COVID policies that have crippled Anchorage’s economy.

The effort to recall him from office has obviously grabbed his attention. With Rivera’s blessing, on Dec. 7, a group called Midtown Citizens Coalition filed a lawsuit in Anchorage Superior Court with the hope of protecting Rivera through a court order.

As chair of the Assembly, Rivera has orchestrated one of the most controversial periods in the history of the city. He and other far-left assembly members voted earlier this year to use federal coronavirus relief funds to purchase buildings for homeless projects, which spurred an entire week of public outrage at Assembly meetings. He also successfully pushed to ban counselors from helping minors with unwanted same-sex attraction, and has consistently voted to extend the mayor’s extraordinary powers to keep the city in a state of widespread economic and social lockdown.

Earlier this summer, he banned the public from physically attending Assembly meetings while allowing invited guests to testify in person. This has sparked a separate lawsuit, charging the Assembly with violating Alaska’s Open Meetings Act.

Despite growing opposition to Rivera’s policy stances, he remains defiant. On Dec. 17, he appeared on a Zoom meeting that aimed to raise funds for his lawsuit effort.

“This is the time to stand up, and this is the time to fight,” Rivera told the Zoom participants. “And this is our time to do good and keep this majority on the Anchorage Assembly. And we start that by sending a clear message in court that this is frivolous.”

He added that he has so much more he wants to accomplish before his term expires in 2023.

He seems to forget that he’s a publicly elected official. The public put you in office, they have the right to take you out of office. Felix is running scared. He’s a big man in that seat but a nobody on the street.

  • NAV says:

    He will be removed !!!

  • NAV says:

ABOMINATION will reap what it sows, and those who push it will one day reap their consequences in full measure eternally!!!

  • Grifter Bob says:

Just hope and pray, Davidson, that Dustin Darden doesn’t own an RV. Or for that matter, any of the other QAnon 5G nutters that make up the Anti-assembly Pro-Covid Watchman Klan.

    • Jim Scott says:

This assembly is a greater criminal collective than your absurd insinuating vomit suggests of people opposing these communists. The Nashville guy cared enough about others to warn them before killing himself and his RV. These degenerates couldn’t care less about people. They care about appearances and appeasing their ‘non-partisan’ constituency. There should be an initiative that the assembly stop getting paid as long as their EO’s over this absurdly over-amplified fear mongering virus crisis election syllabus shut downs are in place. What a gaggle of self aggrandizing power drunk hypocrits. i.e. Democrats

  • Jim Scott says:

Openly abominable will always rally behind anything or any demonic figure to perpetuate their hellish behavior. Rivera, along with the majority of this historically abysmal assembly are a disgrace. They surely affirm to themselves what great public servants they are in their own eyes. Party affiliation must be returned to the ballot for municipal elections.

  • Dalton Fox says:

For you that love Anchorage and Alaska I encourage you to pray and fight to get back your city. I don’t know how you got there, but it much more important where you go from here. God bless! I want to thank the Alaska Watchman for keeping us other Alaskans informed.

  • Alaska Voter says:

You don’t want us to push are agenda don’t push yours. Sick and tired of people who think we need to bend to their thought process and we are wrong. I have news for you don’t tell me to shut up you’re going to get something you don’t want.

  • Alicia Fitzpatrick says:

Ride him out on a rail, Anchorage!

  • Theresa says:

I hope and pray that Rivera and the liberal cabal on the Assembly open their hearts to Christ, because with Him as the center and goal of their lives, they cannot know true hope and joy in this world! Only people who are deeply unhappy themselves inflict misery and ruin others.

What did everyone do before Christ ?
Or the years of existence in all the other continent who didn’t even know Christ existed?
Who translated the Bible over the centuries?
Which version of the Bible is accurate?
      Which translation ?

  • MICHAEL HUGHES says:

As a man that used to live the gay “lifestyle” before turning to the Lord for help and guidance, I DO NOT support these elected officials who are ramming their agenda down our throats. This Rivera is an adolescent child (look at the video when he tried to shut down Councilwoman Allard when she had the floor and he stomped out in a fit of, childish rage) who needs some of the counseling he forbade others to have (a minor can choose to have an abortion but not to receive mental health services???).
I am disgusted with his and his allies behavior. It only takes 3.5% of a population to topple a government; that’s approximately 10,000 people for Anchorage. It is time for us to rise up and take back our city by “any means necessary”.
For all of you wonderful, and productive, people that have supported this city by hiring people and paying the taxes that have built this city and are now having to close their businesses, I suggest they open up and stop paying the city’s taxes. You’re going to lose everything anyway if this continues, and we all know it is going to continue. The rest of us will support you, as we are doing with the business in the valley who have not had to close.

    • Alberto Brandolini says:

So if you’re gay, you desperately need an imaginary figures help ?
You’re still gay – you just live in shame now – it doesn’t go away no matter how awful they make you feel.
My sympathies for your life of torture and how you surround yourself with people who won’t let you live they way you feel comfortable living.

  • MICHAEL HUGHES says:

And, look at the picture above; if that doesn’t look like a pouting baby, I don’t know what would.

A good history on Tar and Feathering along with step by step instructions. https://metallicman.com/laoban4site/how-to-tar-and-feather-a-corrupt-government-official

  • Alberto Brandolini says:

“He also successfully pushed to ban counselors from helping minors with unwanted same-sex attraction”

I never want me tax dollars going towards “counselors” punishing gay kids.
If you’re gay, you’re gay – it’s none of business or the governments business.

  • Lloyd Llaneza says:

This recall is about Rivera being part of a leftist agenda that utilized federal COVID cares act monies to purchase hotels for homeless projects. The monies should have been utilized for what it was intended for…to help struggling businesses and citizens in dire need. Also, his lack of understanding in following the law makes him a menace to society and that the will of the people will not be infringed. If the citizens of his district in Anchorage wants to recall him. Then, they have every right to do so. Even the courts would not take the citizens rights of recalling their elected officials. I hope the courts will send a clear message to Rivera that he works for the People and not the other way
around. Shame on these groups that only want to help Rivera due to his sexual orientation. What a shameful and disgusting agenda and not seeing what the truth is all about!

  • Herman Nelson says:

I don’t really care what their “orientation” is. I do care on what their ideology is. That would be hard socialism/soft communism. When you are in my face telling me how and what I should think and do, you are the enemy.

  • Michael S Totten says:

Alberto,, you should seek therapy if you think it’s ok to encourage kids to be gay. I bet you are an LGBTQ idiot that likes to troll Christian comments. Don’t worry. We now know who you are. You’re day will come to.
