Republican Party leaders in the Mat-Su unanimously passed a strongly worded resolution on Nov. 30 condemning State Sen. David Wilson (R-Wasilla) for abandoning GOP values and choosing to help form a left-leaning Democratic controlled bipartisan majority in the State Senate.

Wilson is one of eight Republicans who rejected efforts to form a GOP majority despite the fact that Alaskans elected 11 Republicans to the 20-member Senate.

Thanks to Republican defectors, Democrats now control key leadership posts and powerful committee assignments, which will effectively negate efforts by conservative Republicans to pass meaningful legislation in the upcoming session in Juneau. Fellow Mat-Su Senators Shelley Hughes and Mike Shower attempted to create a Republican controlled majority, following the Nov. 8 election but they were ultimately unsuccessful.

“The assumption that a group of some of the Republicans joining with all of the Democrats is the only option for a functional majority is false,” Hughes said on Nov. 22. “There is another reasonable and viable pathway forward that better reflects the will of Alaskans and would result in more positive outcomes for our state. As we approach the upcoming session, we hope to join together with all our Republican colleagues in the Senate Majority in acknowledgment of and respect for the voters.”

In an email sent to returning senators and senators-elect, Hughes urged her fellow Republican colleagues to join forces. “I believe we should make all efforts to work together the best we can,” she said. “Otherwise, what does the R after our name mean?”

Wilson won his election to the Senate after ranked-choice voting tabulations. In the initial round of voting, however, he only earned 44% of the vote.

Resolution calls on Wilson to “immediately resign his membership in the Democrat-majority” or to leave the Legislature.

Passed in a 10-0 vote, the District 27 resolution states that Wilson has “abandoned his Republican colleagues in the senate” despite the fact that Republican voters in his area outnumber Democrat voters by more than five to one.

Making matters even worse is the fact that the Democratic-controlled caucus is “binding”, the resolution observes, “which will obligate its members, on certain key votes, to prioritize and vote for the interests of the Democrat-majority caucus over and above the interests of Mat-Su residents”

“David Wilson has betrayed the voters of (Senate) District N after running for office as a Republican,” the resolution adds. “David Wilson abandoned the Republican Caucus without warning to the voters in his district who would have urged him to keep faith with them and with the other Republican Senators from the Mat-Su.”

The resolution blasts Wilson for joining a “leftist-controlled coalition that is fundamentally at odds with the interests of residents of the Mat-Su Valley.” It also notes that Wilson received $3,000 from the Republican Senate Majority Fund in the last election, which was intended to ensure a Republican Majority in the Senate.

Additionally, Wilson got $4,000 from the Alaska Republican Party, “whose priorities and values he has now abandoned,” the resolution says.

It ends by calling on Wilson to “immediately resign his membership in the Democrat-majority.” If he fails to do so, the resolution urges Wilson to step down from the legislature “so that District 27 and 28 Republicans may submit names to the governor to enable Governor Dunleavy time to appoint a senator who will prioritize the will of District N voters over those of the binding caucus.”

If Wilson fails to leave the Democratic-led caucus or resign from the legislature by 5 p.m. on Dec. 2, the resolution warns that District 27 will encourage Republican voters not to support him “in any future political endeavors in the State of Alaska.”

The document ends with a wider rebuke of the Alaska Republican Party’s State Central Committee for undermining the Mat-Su district committee and district convention process “by endorsing and permitting Wilson to “receive money from the Alaska Republican Party, when our district rejected David Wilson’s request for endorsement each and every time he applied for it.”

“[W]e request an immediate revocation of said endorsement of Senator Wilson by the ARP State Central Committee; and we further request that the Central Committee in future, refrain from endorsing candidates before the candidate has been endorsed by their District,” the resolution concludes.

So again the Republicans loose because of RINO’s. This is wrong and Mr. Wilson should be forced to pay back tge money and a new election for area N should be held. All tge other RINO Republicans need to do the same. this RCV crap needs to go. These RINO’s need to be forced to identify as Democrats also. Enough lieing and cheating the public. Here’s a prime example why we need term limits. They will slow the agenda down. Both parties will need to find and build a member up and get them schooled in the agenda or the agenda will fall by the wayside. No in office for life anymore should be the people battle cry. Term limits will slow/hault the corruption.

  • Friend of Humanity says:

I wonder how many votes Wilson really got during the mid-term elections?

    • Ceak says:

His race had 4 Republicans running, because of the open primary. It was confusing! 4 Republicans on a ranked choice ballot.

  • NoRino says:

One can be so far right that they are wrong. In fact, there are worse RINOS on the far right. All they are conserned about is beautifying Eastman. And many of them populate D27. In fact D27 leadership is made up almost entirely of Saint Eastman acolytes and worshipers. I, for one, am tired of thier antics and this exact kind crap. It is possible to be a conservative Republican without bowing at the alter of David Eastman and the rest of the FACL apostles. I am, frankly, surprised that you put this out with this title Joel. I live in the MatSu. I am a very conservative Republican and I do not support this BS resolution.

    • Dana Raffaniello says:

Hmm, so it seems you are ok with leftists holding Americans in prison for BS charges. Here is some facts for you, there was no insurrection and no one is Beautifying Eastman.

    • DoneWithIt says:

      Tell me you’re a RINO without telling me you’re a RINO…

I see it as theft. Cheating and lying. Add to that fraud. Pretending to represent something you don’t in order to fool people and get elected. Can he be recalled? I am so disappointed. Senator Wilson has been in the legislature along time. Not my district but I always thought he was somewhat conservative. What happened? Has there been evidence in the past of ‘leftier’ leanings? It is complete betrayal to undo the hard fought for Republican majority by switching loyalties after election.

  • DoneWithIt says:

These Republicans that went to the democrat side are traitors – and should be treated as such.

Perhaps fines and evictions will get their attention. Peer pressure should not be the decider of how the vote go. These Senators who crossed over show that they have no integrity and cannot be trusted. Click Bishop and Scott Kawasaki are Fairbanks’ problem legislators who do not tell the truth and have no integrity. There are others also.. Bishop is loyal to the unions and Kawasaki is loyal to Soros. We have watched the takeover up here. Pray that legislators who have done wrong will feel convicted and change their minds instead of following the leftists (Marxists) who pressure and manipulate to take over. On another note the RCV was a total fix and we wonder how much the judge was paid to push it forward. Our judges are on the take because there is no accountability in Alaska’s constitution. We are praying for honest elections and that the truth will come out. Our voters were lost with the RCV voting fraud. RCV was designed to divide us and force us to gamble instead of voting for one person. per seat. We still think the counting was done wrongly. Those who past the first level should not have had to go against those grouped in the second level. We are still figuring it out. It was dishonest and it seemed that those running did not even understand it. Also, like Mat-su, Fairbanks should have done it in one day with paper ballots and voter ID. Any voting machines are not needed to speed things us when they could be changing the algorithms in the machines. Two weeks was a lot of time to alter the votes.

  • Molly says:

How about we use the same method that the demoncrats are using on eastman on all 8 of the RINOS? Oath breakers in our state legislature with their treason on we the people? This will let governor Dunleavy select an interim person to replace the traitor.

  • Barb Melland says:

As a constituent of Wilson, I am soooo angry.
This man will smile in your face, agreeing with you, then vote the opposite. He is an egomaniac who thinks he is untouchable as he has had the protection of the rino Alaska republican party, which, as a conservative, I have grown to despise. Wilson needs to resign or change parties as he is a closet democrat.

    • DoneWithIt says:

Wilson is a RINO traitor. as a constitutient – I believed in him – but now I see his true colors – he’s a traitor. he should resign in DISGRACE. To align himself with the socialist/Marxist/ESG party is the gravest sin he could have committed against the people that voted for him.

  • Ken says:

Always New Wilson was a pretend conservative! He’ really not even Rino.

  • Matthew myers says:

Another fake and a liar Alaskan politician. Just put him on the pile. No more votes for turncoats.

  • DaveMaxwell says:

Hey republicans in a mood for excer sizing your authority, how about giving dunleavy a lip lashing as well!!?
The guy has been as useless as a brain tumor

  • Bess says:

I am proud of our Republican party leaders for calling out this traitor! Please keep up the pressure to discourage this type of double-crossing behavior in the future.

  • RA says:

Seams to be very common today, run as a republican and vote as a democrat. Take over of the whole system.
probably a move taken out of the maxist handbook. We should do the same to them.

    • Sally M Pollen says:

I’m not in Senator Wilson’s district but I’m not blind. For years he has flown under the radar, so to speak, but now is showing up clearly. Elected Republicans, like Wilson, are safe to betray fellow conservatives and the values we hold because the ARP has their backs, not only turning a blind eye, but enabling with endorsements and campaign money. The problems are obvious, but solutions difficult because true conservatives can’t trust who are supposed to be allies.

  • Carol Allums says:

Several of the people above called this right. It is fraud pure and simple. People donated money to that man to run as a Republican to advance the values of the Republican party and he flipped on them. I didn’t donate to him but I would think that those who did would be lined up to file suit to get their money back.

  • Friend of Humanity says:

Is Gov. Dunleavy a Freemason? Is this something that we should be worried about? Was watching the KTOO video of his inauguration and see that he kept his right hand under his jacket while the Alaska Military Youth Academy marched in and during the National Anthem. Dang. Another RINO?

  • Diana says:

Shelly Hughes needs to resign. All Republican Senators need to take a close look at the work she has done on Bills and ask if they would stand up in a US Supreme Court Test under the US Constitutional.
