A controversial LGBTQ activist group known as The Queen’s Guard staged a “Rainbow Harvest Festival” in downtown Palmer on Oct. 12.

Boosted by recent funding from the Mat-Su Health Foundation, the group increasingly targets gender-confused youth and young adults through events, meetings and role-playing game nights. It has a particular focus on advancing a radical sexual identity agenda in the Mat-Su – one of the most conservative areas of Alaska.

In addition to offering candy, prizes and games for young children, the Oct. 12 event in Palmer invited Drag For A Cause, a group known for performing sexualized drag queen shows to raise money for various LGBTQ entities and causes.

Drag For a Cause was recently cited in an Alaska Watchman article, when it was discovered that one the group’s board members and prominent drag queen dancers was slated to give a keynote address during a state-sponsored youth health summit last month.

The speaker, Brooks Banker, was not scheduled to appear in drag, but he is one of the more well known performers in Alaska, and regularly dances as a buxom, bearded drag queen in gay bars, Democrat fundraisers, children’s story hours and for left-leaning nonprofits such as The Queen’s Guard. He goes by the stage name, “Golden Delicious.”

While organizers of the Alaska youth summit ultimately cancelled Banker’s talk, The Queen’s Guard came to his defense and later invited Drag For A Cause to set up a promotional booth their Oct. 12 event in Palmer.

“Golden Delicious is a compassionate educator and performer who shows up for youth and survivors with care and integrity,” The Queen’s Guard Facebook page states. “Drag is not inherently sexual. Queer joy is not a threat. Advocacy for LGBTQIA2S+ youth is not indoctrination—it’s survival. We reject fear-mongering. We stand with Golden. We build truth, together.”

Despite this characterization of Golden Delicious, his stage costumes include tight-fitting and revealing clothing, heavy make up and exaggerated and exposed cleavage. Additionally, the Drag For A Cause social media sites includes scores of images of fellow drag performers in lingerie and other hyper-sexualized outfits.

You know where and when the Drag Show will occur. It should be very easy to avoid.

    • Carolyn says:

Why avoid them? They’re not going away. Consider getting your friends out there with you to protest? It’s the only way they’ll go away.

    • Proud Alaskan says:

Why do you want them to go away?
Because it’s sick, disgusting, evil, and they’re preying on children.

      • Manny Mullen says:

There are things Christians do that are disgusting and sick, but I’m not protesting at your church.

And they do not prey on children, they make them laugh. Over costumed and way too much make up and goofy antics of men looking like women is great theater.

  • Carolyn says:

Are there protesters that are planning to be there? This is disgusting! They’re a bunch of perverts trying to take away our youth! We need to protect our young people. It’s a calculated attack on our conservative community.
I am recovering from 21 surgeries on my right ankle or I would be there outside protesting these perverts.

  • David Jones says:

Sounds like a blast! I really enjoy a good Drag Show. Some of you old prudes would get avlaugh out of it, too. You just have to take that plank out of your eye, first so that you can see as The Bible says.

The Palmer depot can be rented for just about anything. I have attended weddings, funerals, craft fairs, voting, music, birthday parties, dancing, among a number of activities. Hence this sadly darkly deluded activity, likely selecting the Palmer depot to make a nose thumbing, or middle finger, type statement, is not a reflection of collective Palmer values. At least most Palmer values, which lean more traditional and family focused. The city of Palmer can’t discriminate so alas we are subject to sordid stuff we would prefer to protect our kids from. I for one will steer clear, and continue to pray for awakening and healing for those who feel the need to push their confusion and darkness onto other people.

    • Manny Mullen says:

Spoken like a 1890 Catholic missionary. Steer clear, good idea. Apparently Palmer values are diverse. Maybe attend without you children and just see what it’s like.

      • steve says:

Manny your logic doesn’t ripen well. If someone knows an event or a substance is bad for them then why encourage them to try it? Drug pushers use the same logic, maybe try it and see what it’s like?

      • Elizaberh Henry says:

That I am not. My children are all grown and married and would not attend either. It is a promotion of mental illness. If you are so inclined to that, go ahead and imbibe.

      • Scrumptious Clam says:

Manny’s logic ripens like a banana, which is the fruit of fruits.

This sort of event is vile on every level. Does the City of Palmer no longer rent out the train depot? Do they have no regard for what types of events it is rented for all of a sudden? Could the rental contract offer clarification on this for any of the tax-paying citizens in Palmer who don’t want this kind of rubbish in our town? I’ve been to weddings, funerals, art shows, graduation parties, Colony Christmas, choir concerts and so many other wonderful events at the Palmer Train Depot- how in the world did this event slip through the cracks? Is someone important on vacation?
Palmer is the next Anchorage and unfortunately Anchorage has turned into Portland… we are no longer in the land of the living.

Homosexuals are mentally ill, confused and angry. That makes them a menace to society. I shun them. If they enter my business I ignore them. If they apply for employment I ignore them. Those who support them get the same.

    • Paul Hart says:

You can tell people are Gay just by looking at them? That’s quite a talent!

      • Elizaberh Henry says:

Some are pretty obvious yes. It is typically those desperate for attention, which is heart wrenching. When I was in my working years I had a couple colleague friends over many years who had same sex attraction. They both conducted themselves with propriety and respect as back then it was correctly known as a sexual dysfunction like any other mental or emotional dysfunction one might deal with. In each instance I became friends with both, and learned their back stories. Both had serious childhood trauma. Sexual dysfunction and gender identity crisis have roots. Fast forward to today and both are promoted, by the left, as edgy and alternative and to be embraced. It is still dysfunction and also now social contagion. Pushing it on children is plain evil. If you think this is perfectly ok, then you are aligned with evil and shame on you as that is despicable.

    • Manny Mullen says:

You Christians are a menace to logic and reason. The 6000 year old Great Flood, a virgin giving birth, a dead man living again, and talking snakes and ghosts and demons and angels. You ACTUALLY believe in them despite the impossibility. THAT is a mental illness honey. Two mormon missionaries blew into town yesterday. I pity them but I would never diss them. (they are actually fun to talk to!)

    • AlaskanMum says:

Didn’t you write that great piece about Sarah Palin?

  • SameSadStory says:

while I vehemently disagree with the lifestyle, if its indoors then fine. if the shows are not deemed unlawful for children then so be it. if you think the show is unlawful, video tape it and submit it for evidence. its the way the world is now. Love your enemies. laws dont change hearts.

  • S says:

Page 8 and 9 of the Palmer Train Depot contract from the borough shows many points in which this sort of event would be a breach of contract. Go to their website, write your complaint within the contact section, call everyone you know who cares about Palmer and ask them to do the same. There is no room in Palmer for an event calling itself a harvest event which is dressed in the cloak of evil- going after our innocent youth minds, hearts and physical bodies.
In page 8/9 of the train rental contract it details that all children 14 and younger must be supervised by a responsible adult. I’d like to know how they plan to police that particular rule and ensure the youth who do attend this lie of an event aren’t groomed and used as material for all pedofiles present.

    • Dana R. says:

The Mat-Su Health Foundation had no involvement in organizing the Rainbow Harvest Festival event. Claims suggesting otherwise are misleading. The Watchman appears to be using inflammatory tactics to generate clicks and stir public resentment toward individuals and organizations they may personally oppose. It’s important to stick to facts: a small, one-time sponsorship for a specific purpose does not equate to boosted funding or broad endorsement. That’s a significant leap, Joel—even for you.

  • steve says:

“Advocacy for LGBTQIA2S+ youth is not indoctrination—it’s survival”, what a statement!
It’s survival only for the movement not the benefit of the young. What a sick group of adults.

  • Pissed Off PaPa says:

POSSITIVE NOTE: These idiots will breed themselves out of existence.

    • Danny says:

Not if they keep recruiting young people.
Almost all homosexuals are born to straight people, so they will keep existing.

  • Jon and Ruth Ewig says:

The church provides the moral compass for our communities. Prayer is powerful and all of us can participate. How about Contacting each of the Bible believeing churches in the area requesting ongoing prayer that this event fails to materialize. Drag shows are demeaning to men and women and rebellion against the moral values of Western Civilization which made America a “beacon: for truth”. Our children should not be exposed to this as a role model and especially an assault on their innocence. Prayer is our greatest power. Challenge the churches to take this on collectively. It worked for Fairbanks when the sodomites were trying to introduce a drag show at our fair. Drag shows are a way to recruit people into the into the anti-family liffestyle that is so harmful. Let’s keep after this as it appears in different areas of the state.

    • Manny Mullen says:

Ewig . Your Christian arrogance helps drive people away.

      • Alaskanyuk says:

Manny Mullen. Can you please show the drag queens how to look in the mirror and smile big! Remember? Tell them how you finally understood what evil is when you did that and that their smile is very similar to yours!

      • Brown Round says:

        Next train to monkey pox!
        Alllll aboard!

  • Johnny says:

It’s sure to attract many deviants, keeps your kids at home.

  • ShannynMoore says:

homosexuals maintain and expand their numbers by leading children into sin. What kind of sicko would condone that

  • Liz says:

John, Ruth and Elizabeth, I certainly appreciate your thoughts and comments. Compassion, common sense and the power of prayer. May many be delivered.
