Hello, faithful men and women of the watch. Our coverage of Alaska news continues as the world undergoes this fourth turning, and we do our best to illuminate the darkness here in the Last Frontier.
Today, I want to share the plain truth about your support for this mission.
As a volunteer and financier of this unique project, I make sure the website runs smoothly, manage the entire business side of operations and occasionally do a story or video. Our editor, Joel Davidson, tirelessly researches and publishes articles that no one else will – content that you tell us, almost daily, is appreciated.
The truth is, we are in a constant battle of attrition for ongoing monthly supporters, which are the backbone of this entire effort. As supporters occasionally fall off, almost exclusively due to a lost job or other family hardship, we reach out – once in a great while – to remind our loyal readers that we operate almost entirely on private donations.
These reminders generate a batch of new monthly supporters but often not enough to replace those we have lost since the last time we asked for help.
Requesting your support is humbling, but when we do this, we are consistently inundated with messages of encouragement that the Watchman is a worthy and much needed effort. Raising this lamp is an honor and a privilege and we strive to keep our content free of charge so our stories can be shared for maximum impact.
If you are able to sign up as a monthly supporter, please consider if a dollar a day ($30 per month) would be a commitment to our project that your faith in us and your finances could support. If that is a yes, I humbly ask, please do. The state of the economy has been hard on everyone, and if you are able to help, we need your support.
Over last two years we have gained 134 monthly supporters and lost 181. That is a net loss of 47 watchmen and around $4,400 a month in ongoing support. It would keep oil in the lamp, as it were, if we could find a way to replace the supporters who have had to cut back.

My comment in which I promised to make a large donation was deleted. Why, Jake? Do you want to make your situation look more dire than it is? Disappointing! Will still make the donation, but you are not earning any trust.

Maybe if Joel didn’t spend so much traveling to all the gay events, and they started doing real journalism, they wouldn’t have this problem.
