Fairbanks’ politics have been listing left for the past few election cycles as conservatives are gradually replaced on the city council, borough assembly and school board.
If a well-heeled and determined environmentalist group has its way, the next few years will bring about climate-change inspired mandates, the end of fossil fuels, carbon taxation, roadblocks to state and federal efforts to launch oil, gas and mineral production, and robust expansion of the LGBTQ agenda across all levels of government and society.
One of the main groups spearheading this charge is the Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition (FCAC), a group of radical environmentalists, far-left pastors and diversity, equity and inclusion adherents.

For years now, this coalition has organized protests, packed public meetings and groomed candidates for public office to advance its multipronged agenda, slowly but surely.
The group blends environmental alarmism with racial and sexual identity politics. On Oct. 30, for example, FCAC staff members are partnering with the Fairbanks Queer Collective for a panel discussion entitled “EnviroQueer.”
“Panelists will discuss how the environment impacts us across our intersectional identities and how it influences the work we do,” a FCAC flyer for the event explains. “We’ll discuss questions like ‘how are climate justice and LGBQT+ liberation connected?’ and ‘What are logical ways that we can work together?’”
While some may dismiss the talk as a hard-left event tailored to a few diehard activists, the FCAC is doggedly determined and dead serious. It also has a powerful financial benefactor to help achieve its aims.
While FCAC bills itself as a grassroots, volunteer-led organization it is financially backed by a group called Native Movement – a multi-million-dollar nonprofit that funnels money into FCAC projects.
According to Influence Watch, Native Movement reported revenue of $7.2 million in 2022 with expenses exceeding $4.3 million. Native Movement is one of several nonprofits that conflate Alaska Native politics with environmentalism, LGBTQ initiatives and abortion activism. While not all of its money goes directly to FCAC, Native Movement sustains FCAC as a fiscal sponsor.
This arrangement allows FCAC to work with the Fairbanks Borough Assembly and other influential policy groups to advance its agenda.
For instance, an Oct. 28 email from FCAC noted that its climate agenda was making incremental progress, with the passage of a resolution to track and report Fairbanks Borough energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
“This resolution was developed in collaboration with Assembly Member Mindy O’Neall and the Fairbanks Climate Action Coalition as a first step in implementing the 2024 Climate Action and Adaptation Plan,” FCAC boasted. “Our Policy and Politics Working Group worked hard on this over the past several months, and the passage of this resolution is a testament to the outsize impact we all can have on the local level.”
While tracking energy use may seem somewhat benign, there is much more to come.
FCAC’s mission says it seeks to “shift our communities away from an old paradigm of pollution, extraction, colonialism, and inequality.”
“This is just the first step. Next, we plan to keep working with Assembly members to implement more climate plan goals as policy, bringing along as much of our community as we can in the process,” FCAC stated. “The climate plan contains many different goals, so determining the order we address them in is important … the sky is the limit.”
Formed in 2015, FCAC stated goal is to end all fossil fuel extraction and usage in Alaska, while building momentum for a “just and equitable transition to a new way of living with each other and with our environment.”
FCAC’s mission says it seeks to “shift our communities away from an old paradigm of pollution, extraction, colonialism, and inequality.”
In coming weeks and months FCAC will be recruiting candidates to run for the Golden Valley Electric Association’s (GVEA) board of directors. GVEA is an energy cooperative that uses coal and other means to generate affordable electricity for roughly 100,000 residents in Fairbanks and the surrounding areas. For years, FCAC has pressured GVEA to end all fossil fuel-generated electricity.
FCAC is also running a “letter to the editor campaign” to influence Fairbanks residents into opposing the Alaska LNG gas pipeline project.

Additionally, leftwing pastors working with FCAC are in the process of planning a “Faith and Science forum” in January to discuss the many ways in which science and faith meet in the shared vision of radical environmentalism.
Another project entails recruiting Fairbanks residents to speak out against a graphite mining proposal near Brevig Mission.
While the election of President Trump may have challenged some of FCAC’s goals, it’s clear that the group remains resolute in its long-range plan to usher in a radical new vision for the residents of Fairbanks and beyond.

Well, a group of cults coming together into one unified confused cult. Seems appropriate. That is indeed their commonality.
How do we fight back against this climate agenda
It really depends on what kind of world you want to leave to your grandkids and your great-grandkids. Do you think we continue to pump carbon into the sky, FOREVER, and “God” will take care of everything? Maybe your own personal comfort, convenience, and “prosperity” are most important to you in the short run. If so, your descendants will come back and piss on your grave.
Maybe you should concentrate on the Polluters that are belching polution into the worlds environment to supply you with all the plastic junk that we are so determined to buy from our self professed enemies – CHINA. All You fagots and Lesbos have your heads and other body parts up each others asses and don’t realize that your obsession with being perverts has you blinded about anything other than your perversions. We will likely find solutions to environmental issues, but this perversion is a greater threat to society than a little carbon.
So you are telling us that you have drunk the Kool-aid fully then. A little secret. The climate always changes…
The planet requires between 2.5% and 4% carbon in the atmosphere (CO2) to sustain the flora & forests. Learn something besides swallowing the Kool-Aid. Even psycho-egotist Bill Gates has reversed his position on “global warming” & “climate change”. BTW, why don’t you greenies ever advocate to cease mass spraying of aluminum particulates in the atmosphere to change the climate? It’s been going on since the 50’s.
They also signed onto the petition to dismantle the trans Alaska pipeline…. Had Harris been elected we can only imagine what they would have accomplished.
Thanks great news! The last thing we need are a slate of Trump butt kissers and flat Earthers. As an out and proud, Xtian tranny I support their efforts whole-heartedly! Namaste and Amen!
That is so funny…that you say “Namaste” yet you spew hate. I guess that makes you a hypocrite then.
Off Grid living is looking better and better. Try and enforce your mandates on me and you will become part of the earth again. I will not allow anyone to dictate to me what I will do.
The silver lining with these types is that they do not reproduce or create human thriving. Their shef life is short.
For all practical purposes, the goals of these people boil down to communism, which bizarrely, always seems to feature sexual perversion and deviancy. They are generally people who produce nothing of value. They tear things down, and are most often funded in large part by other people’s tax money. Most of them have huge amounts of extra time on their hands. Those who produce, and wish to be left alone vs those who do not produce, and wish to control others.
tell that to the CCP
And for what it’s worth, you’re technically unqualified to even speak on this matter. please refrain from weighing in – at least until you have finished admonishing the CCP and their remedies are in work.
PISSED OFF PA PA : YOUR COMMENT IS CLEAR AND ACCURATE! RUN FOR GOVERNOR!!! WE NEED YOUR THINKING!
these wackos are getting more mentally disturbed every day.
Maybe you should talk to China about all that carbon, Jeanette. Oh, and haven’t you heard? Bill Gates just bowed out of the global warming nonsense. He says its not an issue anymore. He’s moved on to other more pressing issues now, like messing with our food supply.
Well climate change fear is a convenient tool of gatekeeping innovation against the peasants. Now that all the big tech companies are competing with each other on who has the largest AI balls, suddenly climate change due to carbon output from energy usage is no longer a problem.
Coincidence?
Ha!
If Fairbanks allows this to happen you get what you deserve like Dearborn Michigan.
