Alaska Department of Public Safety will host the annual statewide Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony on May 9 in Anchorage. The annual ceremony honors the sacrifice of the 69 local, borough, state, and federal peace officers that have died in the line of duty while serving Alaskans.
Distinguished guests who will be on hand include Alaska Public Safety Commissioner James Cockrell, Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson and peace officers from across Alaska.
The ceremony begins at 3 p.m. at the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Lab (4805 Doctor M.L.K. Jr Ave). The event will be streamed on the Alaska State Troopers Facebook page.
The memorial comes just a few days before National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day, which President John F. Kennedy first proclaimed in 1962. Across the nation, law enforcement officers gather to honor those who gave their lives in service to their communities.

Isn’t Cockrell the same idiot who oversaw the abuse that happened to Mary Fulp the principal of colony high school? More hidden crap that repeatedly happens in this inept dunleavy administration!
Can’t forget.
Commendable to honor those heroes. All law enforcement (and fire and EMS) have my respect and I’ll advocate for them in any way I can. But I wonder about something. Do Trump supporters honor the sacrifice of fallen officers? Trump supporters attacked and killed Capitol police on January 6. Can you simultaneously honor fallen officers and also try to kill them?
Just amazing that lefty trolls can continue to repeat the j6 lies over and over and over. Buzzkill, you dishonor every person that has fallen while in service to protect our nation. Humanity-loving people see through your rhetoric that flows out of your mouth every time you open your lips or type on your keyboard.
You’re an idiot, they killed Ashli Babbitt.
