President Donald Trump announced today that he will meet, in Alaska, with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Aug. 15.
“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,” Trump posted to his Truth Social account. “Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The details of the meeting are yet to be announced, but many anticipate that the world leaders will engage in high level discussions about Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
The White House has confirmed that it received a list of demands from Russia that spell out how Russia could agree to a ceasefire.
Moments before announcing the Alaska meeting, Trump told reporters that he believes the Ukraine and Russia are “very close to a deal.”
“I’ll be meeting very shortly with President Putin. It would have been sooner, but I guess their security arrangements, that unfortunately people have to make, otherwise I’d do it much quicker. He’s like to meet as soon as possible, and I agree with it.”
When asked if this was Putin’s last chance at peace, he said he does not like to use that term. Trump added that the war would never have happened if he had been president.
“This is not my war,” he said. “This is Biden’s war.”
He then credited NATO for stepping up spending on defense.
“I will say Europe wants to see peace,” he said, adding that he also believes Ukraine President Zalinski and Putin also want an end to the war.

Hate to disappoint, but Trump and news hour in DC stated he was going to Russia for the conversation, not Alaska. I hope he does. Putin is a thug and he is better off in his own country.
