When it comes to prayer, church attendance and personal views about faith, Alaskans are not particularly religious compared to most other U.S. states.

This data comes from a new interactive Pew Research Center website which measures the religious commitments of all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Alaska ranks 35th among all states with 34% of Alaskans saying, “religion is very important to their lives,” 25% reporting they attend religious services at least monthly, and 38% claiming that they pray at least once a day.

When it comes to belief in “God or a universal spirit with absolute certainty,” half of Alaskans say they agree.

In considering all responses, Pew finds that just 26% of Alaskans would be considered to be “highly religious.”

By contrast, the most religious state is Mississippi, where 61% say religion is “very important” in their lives, 54% attend religious services at least monthly, and 62% say they pray daily.

The 10 least religious states, from 41st to 51st, are Colorado, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Washington State, Oregon, Massachusetts, District of Columbia, Main, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Survey data came from Pew Research Center’s 2023-24 Religious Landscape Study (RLS) to compare all 50 states and the District of Columbia on several measures of religiousness.

A total of 350 Alaskans were surveyed, with a sample error of plus-or-minus 7.7%.

“Truth is Rising” a 2 hour documentary fresh off the press and created by Focus on the Family and Colson, (showing on youtube), describes historically the beginnings of Western Civilization which brought the worship of God of the Holy Bible into importance. With God of the Holy Bible becoming the belief system spreading throughout Europe preborn babies had been protected since “we are made in the image of God.” With the legalization of abortion paganism became dominant in America. Doctors and nurses benefit from abortion and the selling of body parts. The diagram I have breaks the baby parts into sections for sale. For examples, a brain may be purchased for $25, eyes $50 each, arm $75, Thymus $75, kidneys $100, leg $60, stomach $50, The marketing of these baby parts by abortionists has become a lucrative business. Currently, in the window of the abortion clinic is the sign: Abortion is healthcare, and abortion is a human rights. The industry is thriving and hidden from the public. Pray for an end to abortion. Put is on your top priority to watch the documentary as soon as possible : “Truth Is Rising” by FOTF and Colson which is showing on youtube. We are sharing or forwarding the information to others…..Pray for an end to abortion (child sacrifice).

Christianity in this state is across the board an embarrassing thing to look at! I for one would actually like to see a large decline in the numbers instead of growing a crowd of wimpy gutless political go alongs to FEEL NICE, piglets wallowing in a trough of nice little sing alongs!!! GROWING UP??? WHATS THAT?

“How religious are you” is a misleading statement that feeds into the myth that atheism, meism (the worship of self), secular humanism, etc. are not religions. Everyone has personal answers to the questions, 1) how did I get here? 2) what is wrong with the world? 3) what should be done about it? 4) what happens after I die? Everyone lives their lives by their answers to those questions, whether or not they attend church, pray, read scripture, etc. depends on the values of their chosen “religion” , philosophy, or worldview. Jesus said, “he who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters abroad.” Matt 12:30. Everyone has a religion, and asking them if they do or do not have a religion feeds into the mythical assumption that you can be neutral when it comes to Jesus.

    • Manny Mullen says:

Arne. It’s silly to claim atheism is a religion. We atheists form our conclusions on evidence, the scientific method and reason. No magical thinking needed.

“the mythical assumption that you can be neutral when it comes to Jesus.” You lost credibility with that one.

There is a bill stuck in the Senate judiciary Committee titled Senate Joint Resolution No 2 that proposes an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska and would read as follows: “To protect human life, nothing in this Retro Bowl Constitution may be construed to secure or protect a right to an abortion or require the State to fund an abortion.”

If suspected false claims are present in any system it pays to be as objective as possible about the nature of what you’re viewing. Where religion is concerned nearly all of it is highly suspect and the proposed patch to make up for the crazy aspect is the requirement that the reader set aside intelligence and reasoning and substitute ‘faith’. Faith in a fractured theology that has existed in one form or another for a couple thousand years and in other forms prior. We understand our world better now which makes fantastical stories that can’t be true come into focus for what they really are; fictional narratives with impossible to believe references to dead people waking up, floods on a scientifically impossible scale (there’s not enough water to do that), saving the world’s animals on a boat and forgetting that terrestrial plants would all be dead if submerged in saltwater (or brackish, or freshwater) for 40 days and 40 nights, etc. Believe if you must but always avoid inserting nonsense into conversation with others. Lazarus, burning bushes that talk, human form rising into the heavens, the idea that god might be watching over a child that survives cancer but when huge swaths of population die of starvation that’s somehow the Lord working in a mysterious way, etc. is all as reasonable as flying monkeys and voodoo. Stop and think. It’s good for you to be objective. If your brain is a collection of nerves that operate based on electrochemical signals and those signal die when you do, there is literally nothing left of you when you die. No soul, no nothing. When you die you will rot and nothing more. Any other possible outcome is hopeful nonsense from someone that didn’t know what they were talking about but wrote their babble down anyway and claimed it to be divinely inspired.
The 10 Commandments are favorites of mine. What might the Israelites have thought when Moses said “thou shalt not steal” or “thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife”?
Maybe some version of ‘crap, I guess I better change my plans for the evening’!
Yeah, no. And what is the key takeaway to the concept of being a jealous god and you shall put no others before me. Is that forced obedience and a threatened sadistic future if you don’t love me? Free yourself from the trash you were taught as a child.
Hint… no Santa either. Same with the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny and Pinocchio. I know, sad but true.
