Alaska Family Council was privileged to join other pro-family groups across the nation in submitting a letter today to President Trump and other DC leaders to ensure that taxpayer dollars are not used to fund abortions. Please pray that as the U.S Senate contemplates this critical public policy, innocent unborn life will be protected.
BELOW IS THE LETTER TO TRUMP
Dear President Trump, Vice President Vance, Majority Leader Thune, and Speaker Johnson:
As you know, many in our movement have gratefully referred to you, Mr. President, as “the most pro-life president in American history.”
Your executive order of January 24, 2025, “Enforcing the Hyde Amendment,” is one reason why. “For nearly five decades, the Congress has annually enacted the Hyde Amendment and similar laws that prevent Federal funding of elective abortion, reflecting a longstanding consensus that American taxpayers should not be forced to pay for that practice,” you declared.
We write to each of you to express our concern that any flexibility on the Hyde Amendment could involve relaxed eligibility verification or oversight, leading to increased waste, fraud, and abuse – the very problems that are now plaguing taxpayers in Minnesota and elsewhere.
This massive welfare fraud serves as a direct cautionary tale against extending ACA subsidies without fixing the program’s structural flaws and demanding strict oversight around deceased enrollees, phantom SSNs, and zero-claim “ghost” enrollees.
Whether through expanded federal dollars in higher education – which have fueled wokeness and an America-last ideology – or through federal spending in healthcare, particularly via the Affordable Care Act, which has driven skyrocketing costs for Americans, the results are the same. COVID-era healthcare subsidies and stimulus further empowered the healthcare-industrial complex to engage in social engineering rather than patient-centered care. These examples illustrate what occurs when federal dollars expand into new arenas, creating opportunities for bad actors – particularly in healthcare. For this reason, fiscal conservatives should be just as concerned as social conservatives.
We appreciate your leadership on pro-life issues, Mr. President, and your recent executive action demanding oversight in Minnesota. We urge you to hold firm so that it remains, as you said in your Hyde executive order, “the policy of the United States, consistent with the Hyde Amendment, to end the forced use of Federal taxpayer dollars to fund or promote
elective abortion.”
We pledge to all of you that we will do our part to strongly encourage and hold accountable the members of Congress who are undermining your excellent track records on life, and we stand ready to serve you to this end.
Thank you again for your leadership. Our prayers are with you.
