LGBTQ activists in Valdez are hosting multiple “all-ages” events over the next week, which are tailored to expose residents, including children and families, to myriad sexual proclivities, identities and gender-bending orientations.
Organized by LGBTQ groups, Valdez Pride and Valdivas, the offerings include a “Rainbow Storytime,” “Drag Brunch” with free drag queen performances, free “Drag Bingo,” and more.
The events are part of a well-organized and coordinated effort that involves local businesses and non-profits in subjecting Valdez residents – of all ages – to LGBTQ ideology for the start of so-called “Pride Month.” Similar events are happening across Alaska and throughout the nation over the entire month of June, which coincides with the 55th anniversary of the pro-homosexual 1969 Stonewall Riots.
Drag dancers used to be considered adult-only entertainment, which was largely confined to gay bars and nightclubs. Over the past decade or so, these entertainers have branched out into local libraries, city parks, bookstores and other venues with a specific aim of focusing on youth and young children.
Last year, during widely reported parade in New York City, LGBTQ activists were caught on camera chanting, “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children.”
Critics have pointed out that the larger movement includes groups like Planned Parenthood and others that encourage minors to ingest cross-sex hormones and to later consider undergoing irreversible mastectomies and castration.
Planned Parenthood in Alaska actively promotes these controversial practices and will be leading a Q&A at Prince William Sound College on June 1 to inform “parents, families, teachers, mentors & friends” about the “spectrum of gender identity, answer some questions & find some resources.”
Elsewhere in Valdez, LGBTQ activists have scheduled a “Rainbow Story Time” on June 1 at the North Barney Meyring Park Pavilion, in which drag queens will read “inclusive stories” to children.
Earlier in the day, an “all-ages” Pride Parade will march through downtown. Organizers are encouraging “allies, families and friends” to join in “celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.”
Later that same day, “all ages” are invited to participate in “Drag Bingo” at The Valdez Potato. This free event, again, includes drag performers.
Past photos from many of these events show young children watching men in heavy makeup, fake breasts and revealing sexual clothing, as they prance about gathering cash tips while flaunting their hyper sexualized “identities.”
Pride weekend concludes with a free evening drag show at a Valdez bar and cafe that caters to LGBTQ entertainment. Children with guardians are invited to this event, which includes a dozen drag dancers who will be accepting cash donations for their entertainment services. Attendees are encouraged to “Bring your tips and be ready for a fantastic show!”

You make it sound as though this is something new. It happens every year in June. Not just in Valdez, but everywhere LGBTQ Pride Month celebrations take place, all over the world. Drag performances are simply part of the entertainment. And just because drag shows used to be seen only in Gay bars doesn’t mean it’s inherently “adult entertainment.” It typically involves men getting dressed in extravagant outfits, wigs and makeup, and lip-syncing to popular songs. It’s nothing new. If you object to people singing while in costume, you may as well shut down Broadway.

It is not just costumes and singing. It is deeply offensive to actual women, and if you can’t see that, then you have no sense of self-worth. Womanface is a thing, and it’s mean as hell.
Judging from the number of women who enjoy drag performances, I think you’re wrong. Drag as an artform has been going on for, like, forever, and it’s only in the past couple of years that opponents have come up with the new narrative that drag is somehow insulting to women. It’s ridiculous.

People used to say Valdez was a great place to raise children. I believe they WERE correct. Not so any more. Imagine not even being able to hide from all this, because the entire town goes rainbow for several days in a row. Hope the money is worth it to all those biz owners. I don’t feel a desire to go to Valdez any more, now. Not that Anchorage is any better, but one can pass through the city without ever going downtown for gay pride month. Not so in the little places in Alaska.

When you help kids to accept others as they are, even if you don’t understand them or agree with them, it reminds us all that everyone is valued and should be respected as a human being.

I could list a hundred a hundred drag performances i saw on TV growing up that nobody ever objected to and didn’t influence me except to make me laugh. I don’t know when we lost our sense of humor, but here a few through the ages. Bob Hope, Milton Berle, Jack Lemmon, Johnathan Winters, Red Skelton, Jackie Gleason, Tony Curtis all appeared in drag and many who had TV shows had a recurring “female” character. then there was Dustin Hoffman, Tyler Perry, Eddie Murphy, Robin William’s, Adam Sandler, John Travolta, Jamie Foxx. Dana Carvey and too many more to list. it’s schtick, it’s entertainment, lighten up.
