A coalition of conservative-minded groups from Alaska is offering a panel discussion for those who might be interested in running for political office in the near future.

“Are you or someone you know a good political candidate in the making?” a flyer for the Dec. 19 event asks. “Learn from current and former elected officials, campaign managers, volunteers and family members as they give their unique perspectives on what it’s like campaigning and serving in office.”

Moderated by Jim Minnery (Alaska Family Council) and Gabby Ide (Moms for Liberty), the panel discussion includes former Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson, Anchorage Assemblyman Randy Sulte, Anchorage Assembly candidate Jared Goecker and others.

The event will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. at 2511 Sentry Drive in Anchorage. Those who can’t make it will be able to join via Zoom (Meeting ID: 752593 4731).

Event organizer, The Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) is a right-of-center, conservative alternative for Americans aged 50 and over. AMAC’s mission includes faith, family and freedom and an unabashed belief in the American dream, sanctity of the U.S. Constitution, fidelity to the nation’s Founders and gratitude for religious freedom and the First and Second Amendments.

  • No more division says:

This whole left vs right political system is what keeps the American people divided.
The “issues” that the system keeps telling us is important does not motivate me to vote.
All the social justice issues are not points of which I wish to vote on.
Once the system understands what We the People actually want, is when there will be more participation in it.
To run as a conservative, means having to choose a team and be divided against the other team.
I will vote for unit which means I don’t participate in this divisive game at all.
Fellow readers, this is a call to action. Choose unity with all our fellow countrymen. Overthrow the 2 party system.

Oh this headline…. I really hoped it would be an empty white page. Just because it would be funny! (Not because I don’t want conservatives in office—eat worms, trolls.)

    • Reggie Taylor says:

      “…….eat worms, trolls……..”
I see no regulation allowing the harvest and consumption of worms in Alaska. Does the ADFG properly manage worms? How do you know that a harvest is biologically sound? Oh, are you expecting me to buy my worms? What about my subsistence rights? It’s looking to me that if you expect conservatives to eat worms, you need to gain political office in order to set up the proper authority to make it happen.

  • Friend of Humanity says:

Jim Minnery was happy to run Rep David Eastman out of town. There has got to be a different way to get people to step up to the plate.

    • Davesmaxwell says:

Exactly my thoughts except I would have been much harsher towards minnery! What the conservatives in the republican party have in fact accomplished is screw it, I lost all faith in the system and will not vote again!

  • Paul Hart says:

Does being “conservative” necessarily have to equate to MAGA (i.e. Trump’s Cult of Personality)? Do you have to pledge fealty to Donald Trump and kiss his ring? It remains to be seen if any moderate Republicans have enough spine to stick to their principles, even at the threat of being “primaried.”

    • Elizabeth Henry says:

To be conservative stands on its own. Trump just happens to also be a conservative, he is not the definition of conservative. Trump or not, I am all for making America Great Again, prosperous again, sane again.

      • Friend of Humanity says:

I agree 100% Elizabeth. I believe in the Alaska state Constitution, the united states Constitution AND in the People being the Sovereign Beings. I, also, believe in a God Almighty that created all of us and that none of us are above the other. Notice…nothing there about Trump.

    • Jeff Butler says:

The big challenge for Trump supporters is devising a way to save face after years of frothing admiration for the disgraced traitor. He grifted his bogus Trump University, he fomented a coup to overturn our constitution, he lied to the IRS, stole top secret documents, and became a convicted felon on 34 counts. Fool me once, shame on me; fool me 100s of times, I must be a Trump supporter.

  • MeMe says:

We need constitutional candidates with a spine. “Conservative” is an easily manipulated term.

    • Davesmaxwell says:

then muster up the confidence to tell dunleavy he’s earned his no confidence vote, and it’s time to resign!

    • Rep. David Eastman says:

As noted, there is an ongoing campaign to purge the GOP and Juneau of constitutional conservatives because the agenda pursued by politicians in Juneau so often runs afoul of the constitution.

Legislators in Juneau sell out the Constitution every session because they cannot conceive of any way to remain in power without doing so. If, as a legislator, you insist on not selling out the Constitution yourself, you become the enemy (“not on the team”, etc.).

In reality, the current battle lines are these:

On the first team you have constitutional conservatives and those who refuse to publicly participate in purging them from elected office. Everyone is welcome on the first team (even those who don’t personally care much for the Constitution, but appreciate the notion that even those who do care for it deserve, at least under our current form of government, to have a voice in their own government).

On the second team you have those who choose not to be on the first team. Those are the two teams today. It’s impossible to ever get to battles over whether or not to implement conservative policies when you are still fighting over whether constitutional conservatives should be afforded the same respect given to every other kind of legislator. Today, we fire their staff, we sue them, we harry them with never-ending frivolous ethics investigations, and we declare at election time that they are not permitted to be “on the team” and are in fact “worse than Democrats”.

The first battle must be fought and won before electing “more conservatives” even matters. What good is it to elect more conservatives who are on the second team?

      • Edward D Martin Jr says:

David, I am on neither TEAM, I am an American that believes in following the LAW that WE THE PEOPLE by & through a Representative Government ! Get real before your gone from office ,get your ” Public Official BOND ” then retire with grace & honor. Liberty Ed Martin Jr

  • Michael Poole says:

Where was this article three days ago??? I would have loved to have known about this! My email is slow. Sign me up! I volunteer as tribute. I’ll be the most animated and involved congressman you’ve ever met. You think AOC is loud, I can be the rights version of AOC. No problems here. Keep my children safe and leave them alone!
