On July 15, the Anchorage Assembly could vote to approve a proposal to criminalize the growing problem of illegal encampments, which have trashed parks and public properties across the city.
The proposed ordinance is on the unfinished business agenda for the July 15 meeting. If approved, it would impose up to six months in jail and up to $2,000 in fines for those who violate the law.
After two public hearings in which residents pleaded with Assembly members to crack down on the growing number of people who are trashing, defecating, vandalizing and using public parks and facilities as bathrooms, the Assembly could finally approve the proposed ordinance this week, if the majority of members vote in favor of the idea.
There is no more public testimony scheduled on the matter, but residents can still speak about the issue during general public comments.
Backed by Assemblymen Keith McCormick, Scott Myers and Jared Goecker the proposed ordinance seeks to address what it calls “extensive unauthorized encampments that endanger public health, safety, and the quiet enjoyment of public places.”
Currently, Anchorage’s only legal tool to address illegal encampments is to abate them, but there is no provision to impose jail time or fines for violators. The proposed ordinance would address this by classifying illegal encampment as a Class B misdemeanor.

Anchorage is another Portland. Drugs crime and homelessness.
Don’t go or stop in anchorage unless you’re packing.
Is there an alternate for the homeless? If not you are just moving them to another place
So the far left, communists, he/she, she/he what ever the latest in vogue nomenclature bla bla bla took over the city a few years back creating the mess that we all agree that Anchorage is. Now the same bla bla bla people are giving each other photo op cuddos and and slaps on the back for cleaning up the mess they themselves created. Funny how that works with election periods cycling and people posturing for slots in government. “We destroyed you but now we come to save you!.” Sure hope the people remember what caused it all to begin with and vote accordingly to not let it happen again. I am an optimist but… history has a way of repeating itself. Best wishes to those who had to suffer through this and to the new ones whose worlds will be turned upside down. We pray for you.
We must make sure that this Marxist plague stays out of our state. The other 49 just let this happen. Alaskan Patriots must band together and prevent this sickness from taking over our state. By any means necessary!
