Conservative talk radio host Bob Bird, who anchors the “Talk of the Kenai” show for KSRM, has received top honors among Alaska’s radio broadcasters.

Bird was named the named the 2025 Broadcaster of the Year by the Alaska Broadcasters Association (ABA) and will receive his award during the ABA’s Goldie Awards Banquet in Anchorage on Nov. 7.

Bird is mainstay in Alaska radio, covering a wide range of topics, from sports and politics, to religion, history and culture.

“Over the past year, he has continued to expand live coverage of high school football, hockey, basketball, and baseball, while also serving as the play-by-play announcer for the Kenai River Brown Bears,” KSRM noted. “His work has shone a spotlight on Alaska athletes and helped preserve the tradition of live, local sports broadcasting.”

Bird’s regular radio show is a two-hour commentary, which features local and nationally recognized leaders.

In 2024, he interviewed then-U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., but he also talks with local and state politicians as well as movers and shakers from across the Last Frontier.

While his many columns in the Alaska Watchman are not cited in his award announcement, Bird consistently informs Watchman readers with opinion pieces that deal with voting integrity, judicial corruption, religion, pro-life issues, political intrigue, constitutional law and much more. His writing style – like his radio show – is complemented by a command of local and national history, and a razor sharp wit.

“The ABA noted Bird’s efforts in keeping Alaskans informed during breaking news events and his role in connecting communities across the state,” KSRM announced. “His contributions extend beyond local airwaves, with his commentary and reporting reaching national outlets as well.”

The ABA added: “Bob Bird embodies the mission of Alaska broadcasting – serving the community with dedication, clarity, and a deep commitment to both information and tradition.”
