The left-leaning former Palmer Mayor Jim Cooper may be headed back to the mayor’s office if his election-night lead holds up.

The socially liberal Cooper, who is backed by Mat-Su Democrats, is leading his nearest challenger, John Alcantra, by a vote of 157 to 103.

According to the early returns, only 7.18% of registered voters turned out, and there are still 261 early, mail-in, questioned and special needs ballots yet to be tallied.

Past social media posts indicate that Cooper is openly pro-abortion and supports the LGBTQ political agenda.

In one Palmer City Council race, Alison Collins is leading Amanda Graham and incumbent Carolina Graver. The other City Council race has Sherry Carrington comfortably ahead of Aundra “Omega” Jackson.

Didnt Randy Sulte in Anchorage want to make their elections in the fall? Less than 10% turnout is pretty bad.

  • MeMe says:

Turn out reflects the belief that our elections are fraudulent. No one wants to address that in political office because they know they wouldn’t be there if elections were clean.

    • Bob Redlinger says:

Do you have facts and proof that there is fraud?

    • Manny Mullen says:

MeMe: no, the low turn out reflects the low civil understanding of elections and government and the fact that Dancing With The Stars was on all day.

      • Judy says:

I don’t agree. I think conservatives are just becoming lazy citizens. I am tired of the excuses. It is your civic duty and that is all it should be. No one is that busy. They just aren’t. I assure you the rest that didn’t vote will be on the radio and online griping about how bad everything is.

  • Proud Alaskan says:

What’s happening Palmer? You stood up to trans stuff, Colony days.
You get what you voted for, I’m wrong you didn’t vote.

  • ShannynMoore says:

Conservative voters are stupid and lazy. Football….

    • Micah says:

Leftists and liberals are stunted, unethical, amoral, and shallow and will allow a loved one to be hurt in order to be able to virtue signal. Pathetic, weak and the furthest thing from love. Many are consumed by hate. Just look at the response to the Virginia AG candidate who fantasized about putting two bullets in his opponents head and then wanted to take out his family and was then condemned by no one in his party. Do you condemn him ShannynMoore?

Palmer is my home. I live outside the city limits, therefore I cannot vote in these very important local elections. Voter turnout has always been pathetically low here. Would I have voted for a leftist ? Not in a million years. Good luck my wonderful town.

  • Johnny says:

Come on conservatives, so lame! Whine and gripe but can’t make a simple effort to cast your vote!?? 7% turned out to vote?? Apathy is your demise.

    • Micah says:

Exactly Johnny. Very disappointing. I can’t believe they would allow leftists to rule over them.

  • Ginger Pirate says:

Same idiots that voted against an indoor shooting range for a useless U-Haul rental place.

  • Sandra Oden says:

    How is this possible?!?

  • Greg says:

    7.18% turnout?
    What a joke.

  • ShannynMoore says:

Well Micah, yes I do condemn Jay Jones. The democrat party has become the party of assassination, murder and crime. If a person votes for any democrat they are engaging in these crimes. What I said about Conservative voters stands. Only a hand full are smart enough and motivated enough to vote in every election. Why is that Micah?
