The Student Union of Alaska’s state-funded University of Alaska Anchorage campus was transformed into an all-ages gender-bending fashion show on Nov. 21, featuring a bearded man in revealing lingerie who pranced about as a woman in the main gathering space for campus events.

According to an announcement for the event, the “Threads of Resistance” fashion show was hosted in the UAA Student Union in collaboration with the Student Social Work Coalition, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Anchorage, PFLAG Anchorage, the UAA Pride Center and Streets of Rage.

Drag queen performer “Athena Nuff,” a mainstay of Anchorage’s gay bar scene, was the master of ceremonies, wearing several revealing outfits and fake breasts as he directed the event while twisting and gyrating in front of students.

According to The Northern Light, the show featured 14 models who pranced down a runway in various outfits.

Billed as a “welcoming, inclusive space that celebrates diverse styles and stories as we showcase fearless self-expression and community spirit,” the gathering featured crafts, food, refreshments and a dance party.

This is not the first time Alaska premier state university campus has sponsored events aimed at celebrating and normalizing LGBTQ sexuality on campus. In fact, the school’s Pride Center was launched in 2023 with the expressed intent of promoting so-called “Rainbow Initiatives,” which the school uses to coordinate and publicize activities that push LGBTQ ideologies to the student body.
