Alaska’s political left will descend on Cordova later this month when the Democratic Party holds its biennial state convention on April 17–19.
The Cordova Convention Center gathering will bring together delegates and guests from across the state to hammer out party business, including platform adoption, officer elections, candidate forums, and political training sessions.
Proposed resolutions or changes to the current 2024 party platform are not publicly available. In 2025, however, the party passed resolutions in support of DEI initiatives, LGBTQ rights, abortion access, universal early childhood education, expanded school mental health counselors, social emotional learning and massive increases to funding for Alaska’s failing government school program.
The party also approved resolutions opposing so-called implicit bias, systemic racism, white privilege and any effort to help support private schools or independent home education with state funds.

Left-wing Alaska Senator Forrest Dunbar (D-Anchorage) is slated to deliver the keynote address during the Saturday evening banquet.
A draft agenda released by the party includes committee meetings, trainings from the National Democratic Training Committee on political organizing and field plans, and candidate interactions. Saturday features platform and endorsement discussions, followed by a happy hour, banquet, awards, and a silent auction. Sunday morning includes several caucuses, among them an LGBTQIA2S+ Caucus from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Expected attendees include gubernatorial hopefuls Tom Begich and Matt Claman, along with U.S. Senate candidates Mary Peltola and Matt Schultz.
Alaska’s Republican Party Convention is scheduled for May 8–9 at the Soldotna Field House.
