The so-called “Community and Belonging” department at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) recently put on two events to celebrate a long litany of various races and genders, while excluding straight, white, American Christians.
The events caught the attention of the popular conservative watchdog, Libs of TikTok.
“Why are taxpayer-funded universities discriminating against students based on race?” the group asked.
A UAA notice for the “Multicultural Student Services Graduation” clearly stated, “This event specifically centers and celebrates students who identify as Black, African American, Indigenous, Native American, Hispanic, Latine/x/a/o, Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern and North African, multiracial or mixed heritage,” as well as students who “practice minoritized religions; and international students.”
Missing from the lengthy list was any mention of those who identify as Christian, white or Anglo-Saxon.
Another event was called the “Lavender Graduation.”
A notice for this event explained: “Lavender Graduation is a celebration of the accomplishments and achievements of undergraduate and graduate students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, aromantic, asexual, agender, non-binary, pansexual, same-gender-loving, allied and all others connected to the LGBTQIA2S+ community.”
The invitation failed to extend the invitation to anyone who might identify as straight, binary or heterosexual.
Despite omitting a large swath of UAA students, the university’s Community and Belonging department claims to serve as a vital hub for creating an inclusive campus environment where students from diverse backgrounds feel supported, celebrated, and empowered to thrive.
At the heart of the department are two dedicated centers: the Multicultural Student Center and the Pride Center.
The publicly-funded Multicultural Center and Pride Center offer study lounges, computers, laptops and a social justice library, along with low-stimulation spaces, kitchen facilities and craft supplies for students who claim to identify as part of select minority racial or sexual groups.
Programming from these university centers includes BIPOC Connect, Rainbow Connect and other games and social events that promote activism and the advancement of various left-leaning racial and sexual agendas.

In a country where MOST people are Straight, White, and/or Christian, the notion that people who are Straight, White, and/or Christian are getting the short end of the stick is utterly ludicrous.
Stop all public funding of UAA. Let it fail. Stop sacrificing your future generations to this lunatic ideology.
Some people genuinely cannot distinguish between:
“An event was organized for a specific community”
and
“I was oppressed.”
By this logic, I’ve also been discriminated against by:
• The VA for only offering certain benefits to veterans
• Medicare for refusing to cover me before age 65
• FEMA for only helping people affected by disasters
• WIC for not providing benefits to childless adult men
The injustice is truly staggering.

Spot on. The people who complain about this kind of thing are snowflakes with a mere three emotional states: confusion, fear, and anger (often in that order).
Basing discrimination on “I was oppressed” is basing it on a lie. Those groups have not been oppressed any more than any other group. Therefore ALL groups should be allowed to participate.

My story is correct, I can’t go to your demented meeting. But after the meeting, Im supposed to agree with you, about all the lies you were told. God created Red,Yellow, Black and White. We’re all equal. There are only two sexes Man and Woman.
I’m glad the event notification came through expeditiously! Showing up at this event even by accident would’ve been quite traumatic!

Every single description of this event and the goal of Multicultural Student Services literally excludes no one based on race, gender, or religious ideology. The descriptions simply say this is a “special graduation” for these groups and the MSS site explicitly says “centers” these groups, but literally everyone is welcome. MSS DOEST NOT EXCLUDE ANYONE! Stop warping language to fit your agenda. This is dangerous to the staff and students at UAA.

It might be right IF there was a separate graduation ceremony for straight people only. I graduated from UAF and would not want to have been part of a commencement ceremony that celebrated deviancy.
