Former State Senator and current gubernatorial candidate Shelley Hughes has invited friends, colleagues and members of the community to celebrate the life of her late husband, Roger “Rock” Hughes, who passed away last week.

The Hughes-Gettys campaign announced the passing of Roger Hughes on May 23, describing him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, who stood by Shelley Hughes during her many years as a state legislator and amid her current run for governor.

“Rock was the love of my life and my greatest supporter,” Shelley Hughes said in a statement. “Our family is heartbroken, and we are deeply grateful for the prayers, kindness, and support being extended to us during this difficult time.”

The celebration of life will happen on Sunday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at Northgate Alaska Church in Wasilla.
