Alaskans in communities around the state will peacefully gather to hold signs and pray for an end to abortion on Jan. 22. That day marks the 48th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, which legalized the killing of unborn babies across the nation.

Since 1973, more than 60 million babies have lost their lives through abortion in the United States, making it the number one cause of death in the nation. While abortion rates have declined in recent years, there are still roughly 600,000 babies aborted each year in the U.S. Alaska began reporting its abortion numbers in 2003. In 17 years the state has recorded more than 28,000 abortions.
