Three state legislators from the Mat-Su are hosting a listening session to gather concerns from constituents ahead of next year’s legislative session.
Senator Shelley Hughes will be joined by Representatives DeLena Johnson and Cathy Tilton for the Nov. 27 event at American Legion Post in Palmer (1550 S. Mystic Circle). It begins at 9:30 a.m.
Hughes said the event is an appropriate forum to bring up “concerns and impacts of Covid, the federal mandates, etc. (whether in our families, our schools, our work).”
“Our jurisdiction is at the state level but due to the 10th amendment (powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people), it is important for us hear from you, tease out more precisely the impacts, and determine what we can address,” she noted.
The Mat-Su listening session will come on the heals of similar Anchorage event that was held Nov. 22 in which six other lawmakers asked Alaskans to publicly share how Covid mandates impacted their work, medical care, schools and more.
