While the House of Representatives was busy passing a bill to ensure that only U.S. citizens can vote in federal elections, Rep. Mary Peltola was thousands of miles away, making important “memories” while fishing with friends and family in Alaska.

On Wednesday, the House passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) on a vote of 221-198. Five Democrats joined Republican lawmakers in support of the legislation. It now heads to the Democratic-led Senate where it will likely die.

The bill mandates that state election officials ask would-be voters about their citizenship before providing them with voter registration forms. Additionally, it requires every voter to show proof of U.S. citizenship prior to registering to vote in federal elections. The bill gives states easy access to a federal database where they can remove noncitizens and/or confirm the citizenship of legitimate citizens who might not have documented proof.

With record border crossings and a growing tide of illegal immigrants flooding the nation’s southern border, GOP lawmakers have expressed concerns that noncitizens may attempt to vote in the national elections this November.

Peltola’s decision to skip the vote drew sharp criticism from conservative circles.

“Extreme Democrat Mary Peltola has gone from holding her fishing rod upside down to completely dropping the ball on preventing illegal immigrants voting,” said Ben Petersen, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. “Alaskans see through Peltola’s smokescreen to see she will do anything to dodge accountability for her outrageous endorsement of Biden and Democrats’ extreme agenda.”

Earlier in the week, Peltola posted photos of her enjoying time off while fishing.

“There’s nothing quite like being out on the water,” she posted, adding that fishing is important to “experience and make memories.”

Peltola is running for reelection this November. Her main opponents are Republicans Nick Begich and Alaska Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom.

If Mary doesn’t want the job, then let’s just voter her out! How anyone could think that performing their job is optional, I’ll never understand. We have only one Representative, and if that Representative doesn’t vote on every bill that come before the House then we have NO representation!

Congressman Peltrola, won’t have to worry about being home to fish after November roles around. She’s out. Neither of tge other two are worthy either. What happened to the lady that failed in the original election? Why isn’t her name on the top of the list?

  • Paul Hart says:

Bills aimed at preventing illigal immigrants from voting are no more than political grandstanding. You can’t simply walk into a voting registration office and register to vote without proof of citizenship. Everyone should already know this.

  • Steve says:

Obviously Mary doesn’t represent me. If she ditches work and doesn’t vote then she has deprived all Alaskans of representation!

  • Rhonda Waldron says:

She also missed the most legislative votes, more than any other House of Representatives member, and that was before her husband died! She is a feckless representative, we may as well not have a seat in the House!

Until we rid ourselves of Rank Choice Voting why don’t we have convention do decide who we (Republican) want to represent us in RCV so as not to hand it over to Mary (Let illegals vote) Peltola.

Sorry everyone, In my efforts to weed out the spam trolls, I accidentally added “.com” to the spam flag, which caught everyone’s emails that end in dot com. I don’t have a way to screen JUST the comments for links, it also screens the email. Apologies. That has been removed, and we will try and just keep up with the spam garbage.

I don’t think anyone would care if 3 foot by 5 foot American flag was flying …. at the top of a flag pole.

  • Biden the Albatross says:

Between this and when she does vote, which is 100% with Biden’s disasters it will only be RCV that gets her elected if we don’t do this right this year.
I really wish Trump would have endorsed Begich. Palin was a loooossser.
