Alaska’s Nancy Dahlstrom has halted her campaign to represent Alaska in the U.S. House of Representatives. This was the best move for the Republican party and Dahlstrom’s career. The congressional race is now between Republican Nick Begich and Democrat Nancy Peltola. They will battle it out for the next few months, and in November, voters will choose who they want to represent our state in Congress. But what about Nancy Dahlstrom? How does stopping her House campaign impact her future election chances, and what should she do in the meantime?

Well, to be brutally honest, Nancy Dahlstrom hasn’t exactly covered herself in glory in her current role. Alaska’s Lt. Governor has only one primary function. That is to supervise the Alaska Division of Elections. During her first two years in office, Lt. Governor Dahlstrom did nothing noteworthy to ensure election integrity, which was a factor in her congressional race. Voters were asked to trust Dahlstrom back in Washington DC but saw nothing but inaction from her as Lt. Governor. To change this perception, she should start by doing something to improve election integrity here.

Alaska’s election process is a mess. Our problems include having the dirtiest voter rolls in the nation, the confusing Ranked Choice Voting process, the ease of getting a mail-in ballot without photo ID, and a lack of trust in the Dominion electronic vote counting machines we use. These issues have been pointed out in previous posts HERE and HERE, so I won’t repeat myself.  Securing the integrity of our elections has been an issue with voters ever since the 2020 presidential election, and Dahlstrom is in the perfect spot to do something about it before she thinks about running for her next office.

Which might be sooner than anyone expects. Two years remain in Dahlstrom’s current term of office, but Governor Mike Dunleavy has been mentioned as a potential cabinet secretary in a future Trump administration. If Dunleavy leaves his position as governor to head for a job in Washington DC, Dahlstrom would be automatically appointed to fill Dunleavy’s remaining term. Dunleavy could leave as soon as January 2021, which is only six months away.

Dahlstrom might have considered this when she decided to drop out of the congressional race. She might have thought there was a good chance she could be appointed governor in January or at least have a shot at running a campaign for the job in 2026 since Dunleavy can’t run again.

While these might be part of Dahlstrom’s current political calculus, she should remember the lesson of Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. He was a nice guy who was thrust into the role of governor when Sarah Palin quit the job in 2009. Mr. Parnell didn’t have an outstanding record of accomplishment, and when he ran for his second term as governor, he was defeated by Bill Walker and is no longer involved in politics. Nancy Dahlstrom should remember that people in high political office don’t last long if they have no accomplishments to run on.

Fortunately for Nancy Dahlstrom, other states like Virginia and Texas have shown her a blueprint for significantly improving election integrity.

Virginia’s Governor Glenn Younkin recently issued an executive order to ensure the security of voting machines, adopt new ways to secure paper ballots, and clean voter rolls.

The Texas Legislature passed a law in 2021 that changed how they cleaned election rolls. Since then, they have removed almost 1 million ineligible voters from their rolls, including 134,000 people who have moved out of state, 457,000 deceased people, and 6,500 illegal aliens.  There were enough ineligible voters to incorrectly determine election outcomes in Texas. Brave leadership in Virginia and Texas recognized the problem and did something about it. Alaska needs to do the same.

This is a perfect opportunity for Nancy Dahlstrom to demonstrate that she is more than an empty suit. She should announce that she will study the progress made in other states to improve election integrity and report to the legislature on legislation they could pass to fix the flaws in our election system.

Should Dahlstrom take on this issue and make meaningful suggestions for reform, our elections could be significantly improved. As a bonus, actions like this would endear Dahlstrom to the voters, demonstrating that she is worthy of our trust when running for a future elected office.

Nancy, the ball is in your court. It is time to do something with it.

I would like to know why FB removed the article about Lt. governor & Election Integrity by Mr. Greg Sarber??? No answer yet from them.

  • Davesmaxwell says:

dahlstrom should be fired! nobody trust these idiots!15%voter turnout! 85% no longer do! This is plenty of reason to fire this buffoon!

Gosh Dave. I think we need to work for unity among us, or divided we fall… Might consider the selfless act of our Lt Governor withdrawing from the US House race and thank her for it. Forgiveness is in store here, if she steps up and does the right thing once again, but in regard to voter rolls this time. Won’t you join me in praying about it?

      • Friend of Humanity says:

Carol, Dahlstrom has not lifted a finger to ensure that we have safe and secure elections. Additionally, since Dahlstrom is overseeing the elections, why was she running in a candidate in the election? It really looked like she was following in the steps of Katie Hobbs/AZ. I highly doubt that her stepping out of the race was a “selfless act;” there is something more to it than that. Both she and Dunleavy should not be trusted. I don’t understand why President Trump endorsed them; I suspect he is trusting what others have said and getting bad advice about both of them.

got to admire that your willing to be public with your comments! My opinion and experiences are what I reference in declaring dalhstrom a fraud to be fired! As you know I am a whistle blower in this state ! I was declared telling the truth by the state investigator. This gives me the authentic position to make my statements about dunleavy/dalhstrom/and the entire government administration! Your opinions are just that! Nothing more! Your free to have them, but they have no backing! Beware that when you pray that you and your agenda are also evaluated!

  • Friend of Humanity says:

Honestly, I would never vote for her because she has done nothing for our election process and voter rolls. Even if she started now to do something, it is too late to win back my trust. She should have been fired long ago for not fulfilling her duties as Lt. Governor (Sec. of State correct?). With that said, she has time to get some things done that would help our elections…but, will she? Not holding my breath.

  • Me says:

If she wanted to have any redemption, she would do a forensic audit of the 2020 proposition 2 election.

Folks, think back to the last Governor’s race. Big Mike needed to pick a female to run as Lt. Gov. Simply because Gara and Walker had female Lt. Gov picks. Prior to being the Lt. Gov. Dahlstrom was the DOC Commissioner. Amongst the Officers, Nancy had a nick name “Do Nothing Nancy”. She did absolutely nothing at DOC, just like at the Div. of Elections. Go out to pasture Nancy.

  • Leo says:

yes Nancy, work on our voting integrity problems then talk about your next public office

  • Friend of Humanity says:

This is a message that would be worth sharing with Dunleavy and Dahlstrom! We are FED UP!

fed up had better translate into fight like hell! The large contingent of “Christian conservatives don’t have a clue what’s going on and don’t want to! THIS IS CHRISTIAN STEWARDship? The judge comes to the church house first!!!

  • Jeannie says:

I think you mean that Dunleavey could leave as soon as January 2025 as 2021 is long past. Hopefully, Dahlstrom will start showing what she can accomplish, if anything.

  • Charlotte says:

I didn’t see it mentioned here but it’s a big deal: One of our Senators told me in the last mo that good ‘ole Nancy, flashing her “I voted” sticker, is allowing illegals to vote. Why would she do that? Did Dolittle say to allow it bc he’s getting paid off? I wonder if there is a group picture somewhere of Nance, surrounded by all those precious illegals she gave voting privileges to. Do they also get a driver’s license? Motor-Voter? This state is going to the dogs. With Nancy’s help. What a great team they are, Mr and Ms Personality.
And why is Trump choosing a failing cabinet again ? Did he not learn the first time? Dolittle goes to DC and makes America worse, and Nancy the illegal lover gets his seat by default. Just when I think better days are coming, I get this news.

Dahlstrom hasn’t done squat in any job she has had.
When she worked for GCI way back when she was a nose rubber then and seems to be the same today.
    She was and is worthless

  • Brolly says:

Alaskas elections aren’t a mess. We’ve had safe, secure and fair elections going back to at least 1987. We literally STILL have all that voter information, and random audits are done every year on recent election ballots. There is an entire process ALREADY in place to get down to the bottom of any irregularities. Not a single audit since 1987 has found any significant fraud or errors. It DOES find some errors though, and they are documented and followed up on if necessary. That proves that our elections are safe and secure. You can’t fake the numbers when a borough by burough audit can see the paper ballots, the electronic scans OF those ballots, has the signatures of those voters on file, AND the reported numbers. Its just not reasonably possible to suspect fraud with all these safeguards.

Purging voter rolls has a pretty minor effect on election integrity. It rarely prevents fraud and more often gets someone accidentally deleted that wasnt supposed to be. There is 0 evidence of any widespread fraud of, for example, dead Alaskans voting. There are RARE cases where a single individual might cast their dead relative’s ballot. Since 2016 nearly all of those cases nationally have been Republicans. But they were caught, again proving the system works. There is 0 evidence of ANY fraud by Dominion systems. There is a reason they won a BILLION dollars from FOX news for lying repeatedly about it. Right wing media LIED to you about voter fraud. Its 4 years later and there is not a shred of evidence of any widespread fraud.

“Brolly” Who is that really? Your statements are the totally opposite of the truth and quite funny. Your trolling is obvious to see for all those that know the truth. The left has lost this war of the minds – good is prevailing over evil
