Several recent articles I wrote must have touched a raw nerve with State Senator Robert Meyers. He wrote an opinion piece in rebuttal. You can read it here. He is evidently upset about my criticism of the defection of seven Republican legislators who joined with Democrats forming governing caucuses in Juneau, and the Alaska GOP’s inability to do anything about it. I could address Senator Meyers’s issues one by one, but I don’t want to get into a childish back-and-forth online argument with the good senator, and I don’t have to.
The two most significant points he makes in his article are defending the defections of the seven Republicans, saying this has been a common practice in Alaska since the 1960s. Then he says that Alaska isn’t a conservative state anyway, so we need to understand how conservatism faces defeat most of the time in Juneau and learn to work from within the system
I say this is a bunch of crap! These two points capture the essence of the current problem with the Alaska GOP and their reluctance to fight against the left.
They fail to realize that the Republican Party in this country got their marching orders on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania. After Donald Trump got shot in the face, he stood up – covered in blood – raised his fist, and said “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!” He didn’t say Republicans should try to be squishy and get along with the leftist elites to take small victories when they can; he said to “FIGHT!”
The time for Republicans to walk hand in hand down the Primrose Path with the left-wing Democrat party is over.
Despite what Senator Meyers says, Alaska is a conservative state. We voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump all three times he ran for president. A liberal state does not elect a person like Donald Trump.
The real problem with Alaska’s elected Republicans is that many are from the Lisa Murkowski branch of the Republican party. They are Democrats at heart and know that by changing their party affiliation to Republican and pretending to be conservative, they might sneak an election victory past the voters. The Alaska GOP has been infiltrated with unserious liberals and has done nothing to prevent it.
The good news is that things are starting to change at the grassroots level in our state. The era of the big-spending RINOs is over, and a new era of Republicanism is sweeping this state.
You don’t have to look very far to find it. You can see the MAGA attitude personified in the Alaska Grand Jury Association in Kenai. It wasn’t the Republican party that stood up to challenge Alaska’s corrupt judiciary, but a few brave conservatives in Kenai who recognized the challenge and organized a grassroots movement to fight against it. They have petitioned Alaska’s Dept. Attorney General to open an investigation into judicial corruption.
ALASKA WATCHMAN DIRECT TO YOUR INBOX
Whether they are ultimately successful, they have at least shown the courage to take up the fight and refuse to give in. That attitude is contagious and will spread to other conservative groups around the state. While there are a few solid conservative Republicans in Alaska who are fighting the good fight, we need many more. I wish elected Republicans in Juneau had demonstrated the same level of courage as the citizens in Kenai.
By waving the white flag of surrender as Meyers just did in his rebuttal, voters can only conclude that Senator Meyers is from the cuckold branch of the Republican party, which just wants to stand around and watch while others engage the hard fight.
The time for Republicans to walk hand in hand down the Primrose Path with the left-wing Democrat party is over. A new day is dawning, one with strong, decisive Republicans who fight hard for what they believe in. The RINOs in Juneau need to realize that – metaphorically speaking – the peasants are at the gates with pitchforks and torches. Brave citizens are fighting to claw back the American dream from those who stole it from us. The era of the RINOs is ending; the era of MAGA is ascendant.

Thank you good sir,
You have explained well the weak, corrupt, and feckless AK GOP. It is not just in the legislator, but the executive branch also has a very weak person the helm.
When combined with Murkowski and Sullivan and a corrupted judiciary, we have our work cut out for us.
We will keep up the FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!
