Democrats in the U.S. Senate blocked an attempt by Republicans to advance a bill that would have prohibited biological males who claim to be female from competing in girls’ and women’s sports.
Republicans needed 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, but only managed to secure 51 – all from Republicans. A total of 45 Democrats voted against the bill.
Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski voted to advance the bill, and Sullivan was also a co-sponsor.
Prior to the vote, he said “too many girls and women across our country have had their dreams dashed because the former administration shredded Title IX protections by allowing biological men to compete against them in sports.”
Murkowski’s vote, was more of a surprise, given she has voted against similar legislation in the past. In the hours leading up to the vote, however, there was an active grassroots campaign urging her to vote with her fellow Republicans.

The legislation sought to protect the integrity of female sports by ensuring that biological males are barred from competing in school sports that are specifically designated for females.
Last month, President Trump signed an executive order granting federal agencies the ability to to ensure that entities receiving federal funds abide by Title IX in accord with the administration’s interpretation of the law, which defines sex as assigned at birth – either male or female.
The failed bill, which passed the House on a 218 to 206 vote, was an attempt to enshrine Trump’s executive order into statute, thereby making it more difficult to undo under a new administration.

Trans girls are girls, full stop. Trans girls belong in women’s sports.
Love to see them in their volleyball shorts. Especially pre-op.
Jeffrey, you forgot to mention that pigs can fly too.
Trans girls are NOT girls. Full stop. Saying so repeatedly does not make it so. Anyone maintaining this is not only self-deluded, but group-deluded. The Democratic Party is not worthy of any serious consideration, nor are its paid trolls.
Nicely said.
I find it hilarious that no matter what identity the trans choose, none of them can ever identify as happy and complete. They will always be beholden to a system outside of themselves to validate their existence. Hormones, drugs, surgeries, political movements. Without all those devices, a tranny cannot exist.
People want to talk about slavery in America’s history, but easily overlook the slavery of being a trans person. Shackled in twisted thoughts of self identity.
Too bad.
Molo. Your comparison of trans to slavery is a total failure.
The Senate did not vote on the bill itself, as the article falsely claims. Today’s vote was whether or not to end debate and to take a vote, an action called cloture. Murkowski voted yay only for cloture. How she would have voted on the bill itself is unknown.
I feel confident in saying that if Murky thought the bill would pass, she would have voted against it. She has backed the trans issue from the beginning and only voted no knowing it would fail.
I could have swore Trump signed an executive order regarding this subject. Anyone going along with this gender confusion is a WEF puppet and NOT fit for any office of importance. This is the will of the people and it was proven.
Jeffery, get married to a ” trans girl full stop”. YOUR HONEYMOON WILL BE A PERVERSE FORM OF WHACK A MO!
Abomination
Did Lisa feel safe voting to advance the bill, knowing there would likely not be enough votes to do so? Or was her vote a principled stand?
