As President Trump and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) uncover and get rid of wasteful spending, there is increasing hope for stopping funding for Planned Parenthood. Currently, there is a case before the Supreme Court, known as Mendina vs. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, in which the state of South Carolina is petitioning to uphold their right to pull state funding from Planned Parenthood.
A national movement to defund Planned Parenthood is currently underway, with support from all 50 states. Alaska Family Council is proud to be one of more than 150 organizations across the country that has signed this joint letter calling on Congress to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion mill.
Planned Parenthood is, by far, the biggest abortion provider in the country, performing 40 percent of the over one million abortions conducted in the United States every year. The organization receives around 1.7 billion dollars from government grants and Medicare/Medicaid payments.

These federal monies comprise the vast majority of Planned Parenthood’s funding, which is not to say they are hurting for money. A vile irony has occurred since the 2022 Dobbs decision overturned Roe vs. Wade: private donations to Planned Parenthood have increased. In the immediate aftermath of the Dobbs decision, they received $498 million in donations,
Unfortunately, American taxpayer dollars are also being sent to Planned Parenthood facilities outside the United States, with $2.03 million being given to International Planned Parenthood Federation through the corrupt – and recently exposed – U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Even if U.S. Government funds are not designated to specifically fund abortions, giving money to Planned Parenthood for non-abortion services allows the organization to shift the funds they previously budgeted for non-abortion services to the abortion side of their house.
Some of those non-abortion services include lobbying and supporting political candidates. They annually spend over $1 million in lobbying efforts, and during the 2024 election cycle, they contributed over $10.5 to political candidates; $5.6 million to defeat Republicans, $4.5 million to elect Democrats, only $9,532 to defeat Democrats, and exactly zero dollars to support Republicans.

In addition to providing abortions, Planned Parenthood is now dispensing “gender affirming” medications; that is, they’re giving hormones and puberty blockers to young people who are under the misguided notion that they can change their sex. Planned Parenthood is truly an evil organization. They were caught selling baby parts, they routinely do not report sex offenders of minors, and they assist minors from having to inform their parents that they’re getting an abortion.
