The hard left supermajorities on the Anchorage Assembly and school board appear to be firmly entrenched based on the April ,1 unofficial election-day results.

Voters had a chance to swap out radical Assemblymen and school board members but chose to double down on the increasingly leftist trend in Anchorage politics, giving elected officials immense power to continue imposing their political ideology on residents.

Voter turnout was just 16.4% but that number will grow as mail-in ballots continue to come in. Ballots will be counted so long as they were postmarked on or before election day.

For now, Assembly incumbents Daniel Volland, Kameron Perez Verdia appear to have easily defeated their conservative challengers.

Likewise, Planned Parenthood-endorsed newcomer Yarrow Silvers won. She is an environmentalist and leftwing political activist. Joining her on the Assembly is fellow newcomer Erin Baldwin Day – a social justice organizer.

Jared Goecker, who won in the more traditional Eagle River-Chugiak district, is the only known conservative winner, but he is simply replacing another conservative – Mark Littlefield – who is stepping down.

Somewhat conservative Assemblyman Randy Sulte is also stepping down. His seat appears to have gone solidly to Kieth McCormick, a political unknown who has worked as a physician assistant, and is a former U.S. Marine.

Overall, the Assembly races yielded 4 solid liberal seats, 1 conservative and one unknown, which means the Assembly will continue to be dominated by the political left.

The School Board is not much different.

Entrenched liberal incumbent Margo Bellamy looks to have easily dispatched conservative challenger Alexander Rosales. Fellow incumbent Kelly Lessons also appears to have soundly defeated conservative challenger Mark Anthony Cox. Both victors were deemed “champions” by Planned Parenthood. With their victories, School Board Member Dave Donley – will continue to be the lone conservative on the seven-member body.

In addition to electing radical leftist candidates, voters seem eager to take on new debt with a whole slew of bonds leading on election night. Bonds to enhance schools, improve roads, expand parks, increase police presence, and boost public safety were all ahead on election night. Likewise, bonds for library and senior center improvements were passing, as was a bond to boost fire service protection.

On April 17, the Anchorage Election Commission will meet to adjudicate challenged ballots. The election is scheduled for official certification on April 22.

Until the conservatives in Anchorage grow a spine and come out and vote, this is going to be the norm. Pretty sick, Anchorage!

    • fergie says:

This situation is never going to change until both local and national Republican leaders and “MAGA” financiers get a large and well organized “get out the vote” effort for non-presidential elections. As long as the main stream media and large amounts of outside “darK” money continue to be a tool of the left, this will be the case. Lack of such “get our the vote” efforts by Republican leaders means our basically “red” state will continue to end up losing to the left in local and non-presidential elections

    • Alaskanphenex says:

I hate to break it to you Sally, The amount of progressive people in Anchorage outmatches the amount of conservatives. no matter how hard conservatives vote, unless more plan to move to anchorage, you’re not gonna see that red wave.

  • Gene LeDoux says:

Disgusting Republican leadership in Anchorage not putting out the vote.

  • AK Fish says:

The 83% of voters eligible to vote (by mail/in-person) get what you deserve for Assembly Members and School District Board. Taxes will increase for all property owners that pay taxes above the tax cap. The homeless population thanks you for future improvements to their municipal parks.

  • Jack Roberts says:

Mail in ballots probably having nothing to do with it I’m sure.

    • Elizabeth Henry says:

Combined with laziness. A bad combination. They have the ability to get rid of cheat by mail. I have heard no efforts at all.

  • Elizabeth Henry says:

It seems Anchorage has a serious voter apathy problem but it is worse than that. I know there are many conservatives there so why can they not organize and get a ballot measure to eliminate the cheat by mail system and return to in person voting? It seems they are too lazy and have so grounds for complaint if they won’t make an effort to make changes. I believe there is much corruption in the voting system in Anchorage and it affects our whole state as we all are suffering from what Anchorage is forcing upon us in the legislature. Cleaning up their elections needs to start with them, the Matsu valley and Kenai Peninsula cannot do it for them.

  • Steve says:

Anchorage is becoming the cesspool of Alaska. I hope the state isn’t chipping in on the bond issues that passed.

  • Citizenkane says:

    Anchorage Conservatives, punked AGAIN!

  • Proud Alaskan says:

Agree, mail-in voting, needs to Stop. Yes weak republicans/conservative’s in anchorage
“Anchorage is becoming the cesspool of Alaska” It’s been stinking for a long time now.

  • OK in Anchorage says:

Too bad Musk didn’t show up with a million dollar check to encourage awareness and participation… 😉

  • Manny Mullen says:

Maybe Republicans should offer things that the Anchorage citizens want.

    • Steve says:

You hit the nail on the head. What Anchorage citizens want… not need. Too many people WANT too much.

    • OK in Anchorage says:

RINOs need to change their party affiliation or start listening to their constituents so they can actually represent them.

  • Davesmaxwell says:

20 % of adults in Anchorage attend church on a regular basis! 17% of adults got enough conviction to make the effort to actually vote! WHATS OBVIOUS IS THAT THE PULPITS IN ANCHORAGE DONT GIVE A RATS BUTT ABOUT THE COMMUNITY THEY LIVE IN, AND THE CIRCLE OF PROTECTION THEY’VE DRAWN AROUND THEMSELVES HAS BEEN BROACHED! THEIR OWN CHILDREN ARE BEING DEVOURED WHILE THEY SIP COMMUNION!

  • Sandra Oden says:

My problem, along with many others, is the obvious unfairness in the election process, itself! I refuse to back it! I wonder who I voted for, as I look at my unused ballot. Did they need it?

  • JET says:

We can’t be so gullible. Mail i ballots, give hard left exactly what they want every time. No one suspects cheating? I do. One of the only things to fail was for police. Far left is all about defunding police. Our voting system is set up perfectly for the cheating left. And the tighter they hold the reigns, the more difficult it will be to unravel the the web of lies and corruption.

  • Bob says:

Very lackluster performance one again. We conservatives make up quite a wide spectrum of this community. Perhaps it’s time to realign our leadership to a younger and more diverse group of conservatives to sit as viable stakeholders around the table.

  • jon says:

Thankfully Anchorage is voting left, hopefully it will help Alaska turn blue, if the felon’s stupidity doesn’t.

    • Elizabeth Henry says:

Focus needs to be on a vaccine for TDS as well as blindness to reality. In meantime I suggest some good counseling.
