The State of Alaska announced that charges were filed on April 4 against 10 people for perjury and voter misconduct, among other charges.
All 10 are residents of Whittier and are U.S. nationals, but none are U.S. citizens.
“Everyone who is eligible to vote and properly registered to vote is encouraged to vote. Voting is a right of citizenship. It is how our leaders are selected and how everyday citizens get to influence policy on a local, state, and national level,” Alaska Deputy Attorney General John Skidmore noted in a prepared statement. “To be clear you must be a citizen to vote in Alaska in any election – federal, state, or local.”
Each of the 10 people charged are U.S. nationals who were born in American Samoa, but they are not citizens. U.S. citizenship is not granted automatically to people born in American Samoa and the Swains Island. However, people from Puerto Rico, the Marianas (Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands), and the U.S. Virgin Islands do automatically acquire U.S. citizenship at birth.
Alaska State Trooper Colonel Maurice Hughes said law enforcement takes voter misconduct and the interference extremely seriously.
“We will aggressively investigate any report of voter misconduct we receive,” he said, “and work with our partners to hold those who violate Alaska law accountable for their actions.”
This investigation was conducted by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions.

Ya we get it, you hate America, you hate Americans, you hate the US Constitution, you hate religion, you hate heterosexuality, you hate the Bill of Rights and you hate apple pie and baseball. But you live here and enjoy our freedoms which makes you a first class hypocrite.
You forgot one of my major pet peeve hates: Poorly conceived hyperbole from a non-critical thinker.
Those charged are wrong to “assume” voting privileges. BUT, AK Permanent Fund applications encourage residents (not citizens) to be given voter ID cards when filling out apps. Easy enough to miss a line that says check if you are a citizen.
NO ONE IS CHECKING. The PFD folks ARE largely responsible for turning a blind eye..,, How many more illicit voters are out there..?
