The Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF) is promoting and funding the work of a controversial LGBTQ+ activist group known as the Queen’s Guard.
Through its community outreach arm – Connect Mat-Su – the MSHF is advertising the grand opening of the Queen’s Guard office in downtown Palmer. The new space will serve as ground zero for a group that has a particular focus on advancing a radical sexual identity agenda in the Mat-Su – one of the most conservative areas of Alaska.
Led by a biological woman who now identifies as a man, this group has partnered with a like-minded local bookstore in Wasilla – Black Birch Books – to hold drag queen story hours for kids, regular LGBTQ youth coffee hours and a “Unicorn Festival” in August. In July, the Queen’s Guard held its 5th annual “Underground Pride” event at the Alaska State Fairgrounds, which included drag dancers entertaining children.
In recent years, the Queen’s Guard has received grants from the Mat-Su Health Foundation to fund its activism in the Mat-Su. This year, the group was awarded another $2,500 grant from MSHF to advance its LGBTQ agenda in the community.

According to the Queen’s Guard Facebook page, its May 10 grand opening will be a time for the “LGBTQIA2S+ community and allies” to “connect, share stories, enjoy delicious food in a welcoming and inclusive environment, and check out our new space! You’ll have a chance to hear what we have planned and share about things you would like to see happen.”

Shirley–The Queen’s Guard is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. As such, it is eligible for grants from the Mat-Su Health Foundation. It does not need anyone’s approval in order to open an office in Palmer, and it does not require community approval to receive grants.
What’s “radically sexual” about Dela? She’s fully covered, has a beautiful voice, and her drag name isn’t one you can complain about. I’d love to know what your complaint really is.
Complaint? Drag Queen. A man promoting the pretending to be a woman as not just theater, which in past eras was the case, but a lifestyle, and one being forced upon the community simply by the in your face presence. Transgenderism is mental illness no matter how you try to paint it. It is also sexual deviancy and DSM had it right years ago until they began bowing to political agendas. It is offensive, not family friendly – no matter how ‘friendly’ the purveyors may seem.

I am glad that they do their research on health, mental health, suicide rates etc so that they can support causes that help people in need in Alaska.
More people need to be educated about the science.
LGBTQI+ people are real people and have every right to have safe spaces to gather just like any other people.
They aren’t requiring anyone else to join them. If it makes you uncomfortable, don’t go.

Joel, Is Mat-Su Health Foundation a local government agency? If so, they are the people we need to address.
They aren’t a government agency, they are a non-profit NGO that takes 1/3 of the exorbitant profits of the local MatSu Regional Medical Center and reinvests them into some good, and some truly horrendous things. Case in point.

The military requires its members to be mission ready at all times. If service members have conditions that cause them to be undeployable because their medical or emotional needs cannot be met while deployed, they go through a med board and are medically retired. If transgender service members cannot deploy because their surgeries and hormones are not available during deployment, they are not mission ready either. It’s no different than any other service member unable to fulfill their military service obligations due to medical conditions. Individuals who undergo transitions usually require extensive long term follow up medical interventions and care that is not available in all areas. Besides, if you’ve researched some of the SRS botch jobs coming out of those unqualified surgeons at Walter Reid, you wouldn’t wish that on anyone pursuing SRS while serving. The military is not the best place to indulge the transgender community to have these surgeries paid for by the government.
