Momentum is steadily growing among Alaska Republicans to officially punish U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski for disrespecting, humiliating and embarrassing the GOP by failing to support its candidates or core principles.

Earlier this year, GOP District 8 on the Kenai voted 18-0 in favor of a complaint asking the Alaska Republican Party “immediately and permanently sanction and/or censure” Murkowski, and to declare her “ineligible for endorsement or support” by the party, including banning her from Republican Party events.

Upon receiving the initial complaint, District 8 invited Murkowski to attend the March 5 meeting to defend herself, either in person or via live video. She refused, communicating through staff that she would not participate in the meeting even if it was changed to accommodate her schedule.

Since that March 5 vote in Kenai, seven other districts from around the state have voted in agreement. According to Alaska Republican Party rules, if 19 of the 37 organized districts vote in support of the complaint, the party’s statewide hearing committee may impose sanctions.

The complaint cited the following reasons why the party should censure Murkowski.

— “Murkowski has repeatedly denounced and ridiculed President Trump, even though Alaskan Republicans voted overwhelmingly in support of him.”

— Murkowski has “publicly endorsed, supported and campaigned for the Democrat candidate for U.S. Congress [Mary Peltola], in both 2022 and 2024 to the humiliation and embarrassment of the Alaska Republican Party and their endorsed candidates.”

— “Murkowski voted against Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, thus undermining President Donald J. Trump’s mandate, and has a voting record that frequently aligns with Democrats.”

— “Murkowski’s vocal and active support for Ranked Choice Voting directly contradicts the party’s established position on fair and transparent elections.”

— “Murkowski’s actions are blatantly disrespectful and insulting to the Alaska Republican Party and disregard the expressed values of her constituents, undermine trust in the ARP, and breach her obligation to uphold the ARP’s platform and principles, thereby constituting grounds for sanction or censure…”

All Republican Party districts across the state have been notified about the complaint, as has Party Chairman Carmela Warfield.

District 8 President Robert Wall is encouraging all other districts to debate the merits of the initial censure vote and to move ahead with votes in their own areas.

So far, he said he is aware of at least six other districts that have voted in agreement with censuring Murkowski. These include Districts 6, 13, 25, 26, 34, 37. Another half dozen are close to voting on the matter, he said.

In an April 11 letter to his fellow district presidents, Wall urged them to allow their respective committees to vote on the censure question.

“[O]ur job is to disseminate the received complaints and bring forth to your respective committee,” Wall wrote, adding that district presidents should “not act as gatekeepers.”

“When you are running your meeting allow for debate, let all parties participate, always protect the minority and if you want to express your opinion, pass the gavel and speak, then retake the Chair,” he added.

  • Chris Scarberry says:

Sanctions need to be imposed, she isnt representing the republican party in alaska. Remove her GOP status. She is nothing more then a RINO.

  • Loren Hollers says:

Murkowski is an embarrassment and is in office only because RCV protected her from being ‘primaried’. She was soundly defeated by Joe Miller, but won in a scandalous general election, thanks to the democrats voting for her. She should resign.

    • Bill Vedders says:

Every year she wins because of the democrats.

    • Proud Alaskan says:

Yes, Joe Miller kicked her butt.
How do you spell Lisa’s last name?
It’s ok all you democrats, we will just overlook that, we got this.

  • Manny Mullen says:

Lisa could be an on-ramp for the GOP to anti trump sanity, but gullible conservatives are all good with starving children, failed national security and man made economic collapse.

    • Steve says:

Manny you never let us down with your TDS bull. If Lisa is any type of ramp, it’s a dead end ramp. You always have such a nasty take on your fellow Americans and believe you enjoy smearing us.

      • Manny Mullen says:

To me, the abhorrent willingness of Trump to literally starve children, the incompetence of Pete Hegseth and his uber-machismo and the literal and gleeful destruction of small businesses in America is fundamentally deplorable (or nasty if you’d like). And that you support the vengeance, corruption, cruelty, absurdity and the lying makes you eminently hateable.

  • Proud Alaskan says:

    The above comments are true.
Lisa you’re not wanted please leave.
I vote conservative-red and vote in all elections.
I can honestly say I’ve never voted for this loser, who is suppose-to represent us Alaskans.

  • Concerned in kasliof says:

I hope that Lisa is removed. she really is bad for the republican party. those who see her record are concerned that she represents the parties ideals since she seems to get elected over and over.

  • Rick Sinnott says:

This article and most of the comments are laughable. You want to see some repeated denunciations and ridicule of Trump? You should read my emails to all three of our Congressional representatives. I love the “soundly defeated by Joe Miller” comments. Senator Murkowski wiped the floor with him. That’s because too many of today’s Republicans are RINOs. But not the way you think. These Republicans are RINOs because they have become the Trump Party. A cult-like subservience to one man’s whims is not a political party.

    • Donald F Smith says:

Murkowski is senator because of write in voting from a narrow constituency and subsequently by rank choice voting.

    • Proud Alaskan says:

Before trump came around, Lisa was still here?
She’s been a snake in the grass ever since her Daddy gave her the job.
Lisa gets a failing grade for what she’s done to Alaska.

    • Ken says:

Go count Mosquitoes Rick! Maybe you can eliminate the also!

    • FreedomAK says:

Trump Derangement Syndrome is alive in well in the retired government employee ranks. Have you ever had a job Rick? I mean one that didn’t rely on taxpayer money to fund your nice lifestyle? That’s why you’re bent out of shape over Trump. You want your neat little socialist lifestyle.

      • Manny Mullen says:

FreedomAK: You ever hunted? Sinnott and a ton of other state employees have used their expertise to provide enough live things to kill for you.

  • The true Dave Maxwell says:

I GOT RHINO RASH AFTER ALL?? GO LISA!!

  • John Whitmer says:

Does Senator Murkowski represent Alaska, or does she represent Alaska’s Republican party? Should she try to do what’s best for Alaska, or what’s best for Alaska’s Republican party? Fortunately for some issues what’s best for the Alaska GOP may also be the best for Alaska, but difficult tradeoffs are certainly involved on other issues. Keeping on the good side of a smaller group (Alaska’s GOP) is easier than keeping on the good side of a much broader spectrum of voters (all Alaskans), and many of those elected tend toward the easier path. Thankfully Alaska has a sizable number of independent voters who do not necessarily follow party pronouncements without at least some outside-the-box (i.e., party) thinking.

    • JenL says:

And very likely 90% of the “Independent” voters are Democrats in disguise. The other 10% are conservatives who are sick and tired of the spineless Republican Party crossing the aisle thinking Democrats are their friends.

  • Anita Hales says:

Right now, Murkowski is meat in the seat for the Republican majority in the Senate. Even if she doesn’t support Republican anything, she does help keep Repbulicans in power. Ousting her wouldn’t help. Let her keep the “R” but vote her out for a better GOP senator.

  • AlaskaForAll says:

Senator Murkawsky represents all people of Alaska, as she should. “We, The People..” includes all political parties as well as those who don’t belong to any such party. If we fight for and support our neighbors and our families, our schools, our best interests, instead of the Parties, we would have better schools, roads, hospitals, better lives. Blindly signing our faith over to a party and trusting the Party to do what is best for us isn’t working today and hasn’t worked for a long time, if ever. Wise up people!

    • FreedomAK says:

Wise up. So, if she supports, let’s say, sexual mutilation for gender confused children or children being aborted/killed even past actual birth, we should be OK with her for the sake of unity and diversity? No.

    • Janice Schultz says:

      Lisa represents Lisa…

  • Davesmaxwell says:

A SIMPLE QUESTION WHY DOES IT TAKE ALL THIS EFFORT TO RID OURSELVES OF MURCOWMOMOSKI? INTERNALLY WE ARE SICK!

  • Ed says:

LONG overdue! Let’s get beyond talking about it and get it done.

  • Kiana Kid says:

As a conservative, I grew up before the oil and gas and mineral boom in Alaska. It comprised of Republican, Democrats, Independents, and Tribe. The scenario is the in this post modernist day. Conflict resolution was so essential way back when as it is today.
I recalled my elderly mother stunned watching nightly the 1992 LA riots. The contiguous states have issues for decades which still befuddles us ‘indigenous’ Alaskan Natives. The contiguous states are very violent. We have made every concerted effort prevent such massive violence in the great State of Alaska. So often it begins with polarizing rhetoric. What it goes unchecked the inevitable outcome is violence. Several summers ago I met Russian and Ukrainian visitors in Anchorage. Told them the native people are praying for a cessation of hostilities between their nations. And that our indigenous people do not want violence on our homelands. To those who’ve recently moved to Alaska—I say the same. We don’t want any brand of violence on our ancestral lands. You’re welcome to live as a peaceful neighbor—but any form of violence in intolerable.

  • FreedomAK says:

I’ve met with her here locally and in her DC office. She’s a waste of oxygen.

  • Diana says:

Murkie needs to go. Stay gone, gone and gone!!

  • Mary says:

Never vote Party. Never voted for Daddy Murkowski. Nepotism at its worst

  • Mark Bartlett says:

The Murky needs to go. Vote her out!
