In order to promote gender-queer ideology throughout the month of June, employees at Noel Wien Public Library in Fairbanks have placed a prominent display of staff-recommended LGBTQ books for kids, teens and adults in celebration of so-called “Pride Month.”
Some of the books, such as “Gender Queer,” contain graphic cartoon images of oral sex and masturbation. Others promote transgender philosophy, cross-sex identities and a “pronoun party.”

In harnessing publicly funded resources, library staff erected their LGBTQ book display in front of the facility’s newly renovated section for youth and children.
The staff recommendations include books for adults and children, such as the following titles:
– From Gay to Z, Justin Elizabeth Sayre
– Rayden’s Pronoun Party, Blue Jaryn
– Gender Queer: A Memoir, Maia Kobabe
– 365 Gays of the Year, Lewis Laney
– A Pirates Life for Tea, Rebecca Thorne
– The Essential Dykes to Watch Out for, Alison Bechdel
– The Queens English, Chloe O. Davis
– Gay, Catholic, and American, Greg Bourke
– Trans Philosophy, Perry Zurn et. al
– Going Overboard, L. A. Witt
– It Feels Good to Be Yourself, A Book About Gender Identity; Theresa Thorn
– Rainbow Allies, Nancy Churnin
One disturbed patron told the Alaska Watchman that it was not shocking to see such a display in the library these days, but it was upsetting that this promotional effort was being paid for with local taxpayer dollars.
The Noel Wien Library is the main branch of the Fairbanks library system, welcoming an average 1,080 patrons each day. It recently underwent a 4,000-square foot, multi-million dollar renovation.
Centrally located in Fairbanks and situated near several schools, the library is a prime gathering spot for children and teens. It also hosts a drag queen story hour every third Saturday, when local cross-dressers perform in front of young children in the facility’s Active Learning Lab room.
According to the library’s website, its mission ins to “inspire, and entertain, and to offer an open forum for diverse facts, ideas, and opinions,” while seeking to foster “lifelong curiosity and growth.”

Libraries are for ALL people, not just social conservatives. LGBTQ+ people should be able to go the library and read about our history, culture, and health. Black Tennesseean should be able to go to the library and read about the history of the slaver and the modern civil rights movement. And if someone has a transgender friend, family member or co-workers and wishes to understand that person better, they should be able to go to the library and find books on the subject.
So you are saying that only social conservatives no what is appropriate for children?
Social conservatives CLAIM to know what is appropriate for children, regardless of what those kids’ parents think.
THIS IS MIKE DUNLEAVYS LEGACY! IT IS CLEARLY UNDER HIS ADMINISTRATION AND WATCH THAT PERVERTS WHO ARE PAID BY OUR TAX DOLLARS, HAVE FLOURISHED AND OUR CHILDREN WILL FOREVER BE HARMED! HIS ” ENERGY CONFERENCE, GAS LINE, CARBON CRAP”, WILL ALL DISSOLVE INTO AN EXPENSIVE WASTE OF TIME! BUT HIS PERVERSE ABDICATION AND HIS LACK OF OVERSIGHT OF ALASKAN CHILDREN IS HIS DOWNFALL AND HIS LEGACY!!!
Sorry Dave, but the Governor has no control over what is done in city libraries. No authority whatsoever.
SORRY JUDY YOUR GOVERNOR IS THEE REASON FOR THE DESTRUCTIVE SITUATION OUR ALASKAN CHILDREN ARE FINDING THEMSELVES IN!

All I see is a small shelf of books. Aside from potential paper cuts, these books are harmless. You can choose not to read them and walk right on past if you want. You can also read them, and choose to be influenced or not by their words. The writer of this article seems overly paranoid, seeing threats where there are none.

LGBTQ+ has been changed from a lifestyle to an identity. Should we do the same for murderers, prostitutes, thieves, adulterers, fornicators, alcoholics, drug addicts?
Is Christianity an identity?
Paul, I am not sure that going to the library and reading certain books is the same as “promoting” this to young children. As the Library Director in Anchorage for a couple of years, I did inquire why we would have a drag queen picture book for 3-year-olds. First of all drag queens are adult entertainment, and should not be considered appropriate for children. I assure you our libraries are promoting a liberal agenda. I know that first hand. I can also assure you I was crucified for saying so, but right is right and wrong is wrong. We just asked they move these books to an older children’s section, but even that was refused. Would you approve a book titled, “Only white people have it right!” or “Only Christians should come to this library”? I’m Sure you would not.
it’s as if they’re conditioning children to become victims of perversion and sexual assault by dropping all natural instincts and defenses. Right across from the brand new children’s section, ya say? You better hope the parents are vigilant.
