A cross-dressing, transgender sixth-grade teacher in Bethel, Alaska, is working behind the scenes with school administrators to combat potential backlash from parents who may be concerned about how the man’s gender confusion might negatively impact impressionable young children.
The teacher is a middle-aged biological male who goes by the name of “Madeleine Tietz.” He has been hired to teach at Gladys Jung Elementary School for the 2025-26 academic year.
Tietz is an LGBTQ activist whose Facebook page included an image posted on July 12 of him in a women’s dress, posing next to scantily clad drag queen dancers. His Facebook account, also includes messages stating, “transgender pride” and “born this way.” One photo, which looks to have been taken in a school faculty area, shows Tietz standing awkwardly in a blue dress..
Tietz has a history of negative interactions with parents in previous school jobs at Mayville, Wisconsin, and Kwigillingok, which is located about 90 air miles from Bethel.
In the lead up to the first day of classes this year, he met with the school administrator and human resources director to hatch a plan for how to deal with concerned parents.
“The purpose of the meeting was to sit down, discuss and develop a unified front for dealing with student/parent questions and potential negative interactions with parents regarding my gender,” Tietz posted to one of his social media accounts. “After being blindsided by transphobic parents(s) in Mayville and Kwig [Kwigillingok], I am most grateful to begin this school year with a plan for negotiating any negativity that may be coming my way. I am also thrilled to know that building admin will not leave me to twist in the wind and will protect me from the type of parent ambush I had to endure in Mayville.”
One Bethel parent was already rebuffed for attempted to remove a child from Tietz’s classroom.
In a recent letter to a concerned parent, Gladys Jung Principal Atan Winkleman attempted to deflect the parent’s request for a new teacher, citing the Lower Kuskokwim School District’s (LKSD) policy.
“I truly am not trying to be difficult,” Principal Winkleman told the parent in a communication obtained by the Watchman. “I am abiding by the LKSD Board Policies and Procedures that clearly state we do not discriminate based on ‘sex, race, color, religion, national origin, etc.’ I am asking you … to get to know the teaching style and strategies of our new teacher.”
Winkelman then praised Tietz for having “years of teaching experience” and claiming he is “highly skilled in her instructional practices.”
“I feel we are very lucky because she’s had years of Special Education experiences as well,” Winkelman gushed. “She knows how to help kids raise their reading and math scores, two of our School Goals this year.”
The letter ended with Winkelman telling the parent that she is confident the child will “thrive” in Tietz’s class.
According to the school district policy, gender-confused teachers like Tietz can insist that students and fellow faculty members use his preferred pronouns. He is also permitted to enter the women’s bathrooms and locker rooms and can dress up as a woman during the school day as he interacts with students.

District policy also states that staff should undergo training on how to combat students and teachers who may not agree with policies that require them to affirm an individual’s gender confusion. The policy explicitly states that students and staff should refrain from seeking to encourage so-called “gender conformity.”
Additionally, the policy forbids teachers from revealing a student’s gender identity to parents who the district view as unsupportive of a child’s gender identity transition.

Curious – because this teacher is outwardly different why are we calling her out. I know plenty of teachers in Bethel and surrounding villages that are gay, lesbian, bi, and queer that don’t get this sort of attention. I also know a few teachers that are active in the local swingers community and they are straight. Should I post and write articles with photos of these people and say they are bad at their job because I saw them at one of my swingers parties? I don’t think what anyone is doing in the bedroom needs to be anyone’s business but if that’s where we are going I have some tea better than this. At least this teacher is now living her true self. Keeping their dysfunction within the confines of their private life is one thing. Pushing it upon children is not acceptable. If they can enter the classroom as a teacher only, and teach well, then great. This is certainly not the case.

Parents should sit their children down and explain to them that this man is seriously confused, and is a mentally deranged individual. Each night they should discuss what this mentally deranged teacher has taught them for the day, and what homework assignment given to them. Then when the school board members that support indoctrinating your children to this type of mental illness pandering come up for re-election they need to be voted out.
Parents choices deserve respect as well. Parents should have the right to move their child out of a class if the teachers life style is in conflict with the moral views of the family. Yes everyone has the right to live as they want. Why should one person have more rights than another. I have had to work in a professional setting a couple times with a trans person and say what you will but these people are mentally ill. So I contacted Moms For Liberty and LibsofTikTok to ask them to alert people about this school’s purposeful endangerment of women and children by hiring this mentally ill cross-dressing groomer pretending to be a woman as one of their teachers.
