A member of the Turning Point USA chapter at UAA talks to students at the start of the current academic year.

The surging Turning Point USA chapter at the University of Alaska Anchorage is planning to hold a public memorial gathering for their slain leader, Charlie Kirk, on Sept. 25.

Like many Turning Point chapters across the nation, Anchorage’s chapter is growing. Even before Kirk was fatally shot on Sept. 10 during a campus event in Utah, the UAA chapter was experiencing renewed interest from students who want to take part in a robust conservative campus movement.

At the start of the school year, the Anchorage chapter held a kickoff event.

“HUGE success at the University of Alaska Anchorage!” the chapter’s Instagram page noted last month. “Our chapter had an incredible Campus Kickoff with so many students excited to get involved. We’re fired up for what this year will bring and can’t wait to keep growing the movement on campus.”

After Kirk’s murder, interest in Turning Point has only surged, with more than 62,000 people reaching out to the national office to either start new chapters or join existing ones across the nation. Before Kirk’s death, the organization had about 3,500 chapters nationwide.

Last week, the campus chapter in Fairbanks held an informational meeting that included 115 attendees – the largest event since it launched in 2019.

The Sept. 25, memorial in Anchorage aims to honor Kirk and what he stood for.

Turning Point is a nationwide movement that aims to educate students on the importance of freedom, free markets and limited government, while empowering young advocates to build strong high school and college campus networks, organize conferences, and utilize strategies to combat leftist ideologies. Turning Point believes the U.S. Constitution is the most exceptional political document ever written, the United States is the greatest country in the history of the world, and capitalism is the most moral and proven economic system ever discovered.

“Join us next Thursday as we gather to honor and remember the remarkable life and legacy of Charlie Kirk,” the group’s Instagram states.

The gathering will occur at the UAA Student Union in “The Den.” It runs from 6-7:30 and is open to the public.

This past spring, the UAA chapter was already experiencing renewed interest. On April 17, the club hosted a “Campus Crashers” event that included national political activists Stephen Davis and Olympic athlete Anthony Watson, who spoke to students about how to promote and share conservative values on campus.

Those interested in learning more about the UAA chapter, and how to get involved with future events, are encouraged to attend the Sept. 25 event.

I live in Quinhagak. We haven’t had public radio or TV for the last two decades. We won’t miss it.
What Lisa is afraid of is, it will be gone from the Hubs with thousands of votes, not a couple dozen or up to a couple hundred votes in the remote villages…….. rb.gy/uvl61c
