After much speculation, it’s official. Former Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson announced on Oct. 2 that he is running for Governor of Alaska.
The announcement was made in Fairbanks, with planned campaign stops in Wasilla later in the day, along with a press event in Anchorage and a meet and greet in Soldotna on Oct. 3 (5:30 p.m. at Kenai River Lodge).
Bronson is an Air Force veteran and former commercial pilot who served as mayor of Anchorage from 2021 to 2024.
A principled conservative, Bronson often found himself fighting the hard-left Anchorage Assembly to address homelessness, economic growth, infrastructure development, affordable housing and a host of woke policies that have caused many residents to leave the city.
If elected governor, Bronson aims to take these priorities to the state level. He’s also focused on strengthening Alaska’s failing school system and protecting the PFD.
“Alaska has incredible promise, but too many families are being priced out of the American Dream, too many young people are leaving, and too many opportunities are slipping away,” Bronson said upon announcing his candidacy. “I’m running for governor to fight for Alaska’s future, unlock our resources, and make sure this is a place where our kids and grandkids can thrive.”

Governor Dave Bronson. That has a good ring to it! Alaska needs a sensible and conservative Governor to help address sound economic policies and restoration of the PFD mandate.
The race is getting interesting. No matter who wins, they still have to deal with the worst legislature in the country, according to “the Hill”. The real answer is both a sensible and conservative governor, more conservative legislators, and the base supporting them. Without the base support, the left still controls the battle.
