Veteran public policy expert Brett Huber has been named the new state director of Americans for Prosperity-Alaska, the local arm of a national conservative organization founded in 2004 by the Koch brothers to promote smaller government, deregulation, lower taxes and free-market policies across the nation.

Huber brings 30 years of Alaska public policy experience to his new post. Prior to joining AFP-AK, he served as chief of staff to multiple State Senate leaders and as campaign manager for Governor Dunleavy’s successful 2018 gubernatorial bid. He has also held key roles in the Governor’s administration, including Senior Policy Advisor and Chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, and brings additional perspective from his work in the private sector as a small business owner and nonprofit leader.

“As someone who has spent my life devoted to freedom and prosperity in Alaska, I’m honored to lead our state chapter of Americans for Prosperity and work alongside Alaskan lawmakers, policy experts, and citizens who care deeply about our state’s future,” Huber stated in an announcement about his new job. “Across our beautiful state, we value hard work, independence, and community. Together, we will focus on policies that help our families and businesses thrive, grow our economy, and ensure Alaska is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.”

AFP-Alaska was founded in 2014. Previous state director Bethany Marcum stepped down earlier this year to work for the Repeal Now group that is working to eliminate ranked-choice voting in Alaska.

According to AFP-Alaska’s website, the group has a strong emphasis on working with the State Legislature to fight any new taxes, champion a state spending cap, push for more health care options, block proposals that threaten Alaska’s financial stability as a state like defined benefit pensions, and advance school choice options.

In addition to these goals, AFP-Alaska will likely draw on Huber’s experience in promoting Alaska oil, gas and resource development along with Alaska’s outdoor industries.

In 2020 he helped spearhead the unsuccessful effort to defeat the ranked-choice ballot proposition.

Problem is DJT is not giving us smaller government (he just wastes money differently)
    And I don’t see any de-regulation either.
He is just changing the nature of the beast, he is not reducing it.
Should have some R. Paul libertarians in his circle, instead of all these power hungry ‘conservatives’
Get rid of the Federally unionized TSA and go back to guards at the boarding gates paid for by the airlines.
DO SOMETHING TRUMP instead of building a ‘Ball Room’ …..this is not why we voted for you 3 times …. schmuck!
