Gov. Mike Dunleavy joined U.S. Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski, along with Rep. Nick Begich in praising the Trump administration’s actions to unlock Alaska resources and honor a promise made to Native Alaskan Vietnam Veterans.

In an Oct. 23 ceremony in D.C., U.S. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum signed a certificate of exchange to the King Cove Corporation that will enable Alaska to construct an 11-mile road to connect King Cove with Cold Bay. The road will provide the residents of King Cove critical, life-saving access to Cold Bay’s all-weather airport.

Burgum also signed authorization of Right of Way permits for the Ambler Road, enabling the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) to advance the project to provide access to the Ambler Mining District.

Additionally, he signed a new Record of Decision for oil and gas development in the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The new decision effectively returns the status of development in ANWR to where it was before the Biden Administration handcuffed Alaska’s oil industry.

The signing event also featured the culmination of the Alaska Native Vietnam-Era Veterans land allotment program for three Alaska Native Veterans.

Sen. Sullivan called Burgum the best Interior Secretary of all time for Alaska, “by far.”

“This is about respect for our people,” he said, noting that the decisions today help undo scores of Biden-era restrictions on Alaska. “We are rapidly but surly ticking off every one of the Biden shutdowns.”

Rep. Begich called the day “historic” for Alaska, which has endured decades of failed political will to unlock Alaska.

“Under Joe Biden it was death by a thousand cuts for Alaska. Under President Trump, it’s life by a thousand successes,” he said. “This is the beginning, not the end. This is the beginning of opening up our state for responsible development.”

Even Sen. Murkowski, who is often extremely critical of Trump, offered some praise for the president, saying she was “deeply grateful” to his administration for these decisions.

Gov. Dunleavy thanked the president for his enduring focus on Alaska.

“President Trump and his administration are delivering on promises made to Alaska,” Dunleavy said of the developments. “The land transfer for the King Cove Road will save lives, economic opportunities will be unlocked in the Ambler Mining District and ANWR’s Coastal Plain, and Alaska Native Vietnam-era veterans will finally receive land allotments they were promised.”

Because they listened to our leaders & relied too much on government programs; instead of training, working, saving & using the money to pay their way.
