Palmer residents who want to serve on the city council have until Nov. 7 to apply for an open seat, which was vacated by Jim Cooper when he was elected as city mayor last month.
“We’re extending the deadline to apply for the open City Council seat! If you’re passionate about serving our community and helping shape the future of Palmer, now’s your chance to get involved,” a notice from the city states. “Council members play a vital role in making decisions that impact our city’s growth, services, and quality of life. Don’t miss this opportunity to serve your community and make a difference!”
Cooper, who is a left-of-center politician, has the authority to appoint a temporary replacement to his vacated seat. Once chosen, the replacement member will serve until the next city election in October 2026.
The original deadline to apply was Oct. 31, but this was extended by a week.
