In an effort to ensure that only U.S. citizens can vote in Alaska’s local and statewide elections, a group of citizens is in the process of gathering signatures for a proposed ballot measure that would be put before voters in 2026.
The ballot initiative by Alaskans for Citizen Voting (ACV), was recently approved to begin gathering signatures from across the state.
If voters approve the measure, Alaska will join the growing list of states that have moved decisively to protect the integrity of their voter rolls from non-citizen voting schemes.
“This is not about shutting doors. It’s about keeping faith with a simple truth: Our elections belong to American citizens who live here, shoulder the responsibilities of citizenship, and share in the blessings of self-government,” a statement from the group explains.
Sponsored by three former Alaska State Senators – John Coghill (Fairbanks), Mike Chenault (Kenai), and
Josh Revak (Anchorage) – the initiative proposes a one-word statutory change to Alaska’s voter qualification law (AS 15.05.010) to explicitly state that “only” U.S. citizens may vote in state and local elections.”
While most people many assume that non-citizens are barred from U.S. elections, recent court challenges and municipal experiments around the country have exposed how ambiguous language can be exploited to let non-citizens cast ballots.
In Alaska, the law states that “U.S. citizens may vote,” but the wording does not explicitly exclude the possibility of non-citizens voting as well.

“Across America, a small but growing number of cities and jurisdictions have authorized non-citizen voting in local contests, spawning lawsuits and sowing public distrust,” ACV observes. “Alaskans don’t need to import chaos or invite activist reinterpretations of settled norms. With ranked choice voting and other reforms already testing public patience, a bright-line rule about who gets a ballot is a stabilizing safeguard.”
The ballot initiative would not change who can run for office, but it simply clarifies who can vote.
“Citizenship is more than paperwork – it’s belonging, duty, and gratitude,” ACV notes. “Voting is one of its greatest privileges. Alaskans for Citizen Voting is a timely reminder that some things are worth guarding plainly and without apology. Elections are for citizens. Let’s keep it that way.”

This makes me wonder…………..can I legally vote in California state elections? If somebody from Mongolia can, why can’t an Alaskan resident do so? California politics are affecting me here. Why can’t I vote there if aliens are invited to do so?
One vote with ID on Election Day.
DALHSTROM AND DUNLEAVY SUPPORT, RCV,MAIL IN BALLOTS, INFLATED VOTER ROLES, NO ID, DOMINION MACHINE COUNTING, MAIL BAG CHAIN OF CUSTODY, ELECTION MONTH VS ELECTION DAY, ETC. . ITS THE PROVEN SCHEMES THAT HAVE GOTTEN THEM ELECTED! THEIR THEORY IS IF IT WORKS WHY FIX IT!!!
They do!! 100% They are the answer to a prayer in the Republican Party! Now a party of confused persons for money and power. Crime Boss Dunleavy had his Administrative Person, Tschibaka buy 30 more Dominion machines and make sure all were in good working order for the next upcoming election. That was the first term. The second term was easy so there will be a rush but planning ahead and having internet connected machines wins the job!
Please tell me where I can sign this. If we do not protect our Constitutional Republic we are bound to engage in another Civil War. We are under attack by those who want to control every aspect of your life and I for one will never submit to that BS. Hopefully Mike Shower will be elected as the Lieutenant Governor and clean up what Dalhstrom has ignored.
How many non citizens voted in the last five elections????
Spot-on question! I’m sure a miniscule amount if any.
