U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan and Congressman Nick Begich share the same Republican party affiliation, work to advance a lot of the same legislation for Alaska, and now they share a familiar political rival.

On Jan. 14, Begich and Sullivan exchanged mutual endorsements as the former runs to keep his seat in the U.S. House and the latter prepares to fend off a challenge to his seat from former Begich opponent, Mary Peltola.

In 2024, Begich ousted Peltola from her U.S. House seat. Now Peltola is bringing the full weight of the Democratic political apparatus to try and unseat Sullivan in the U.S. Senate.

“Since winning his race and joining our delegation as Alaska’s sole representative in the House, Nick Begich has been a tireless advocate for our state,” Sullivan said in a Jan. 14 statement. “He has been a critical partner working closely with me in reversing the effects of Joe Biden’s, Chuck Schumer’s, and national Democrats’ war on Alaska. Whether it’s re-establishing America’s energy dominance by unlocking Alaska’s resources, securing our border, or bolstering our military and national defense, Nick is focused on an Alaska First, America First agenda and I’m proud to endorse him. I look forward to working with Nick in the years ahead to continue delivering real results for Alaska.”

Begich reciprocated.

“Results and record matter, and that’s why I’m proud to endorse Dan Sullivan for re-election,” he said. “While my predecessor spent her time empowering national Democrats while failing to pass a single piece of legislation out of the House, Dan Sullivan was busy getting big things done for Alaska. From unleashing our energy by fighting for the Willow project and unlocking ANWR and the NPR-A, to securing historic investments in Alaska’s healthcare, military and Coast Guard, Dan has proven time and time again that he is an Alaska First, America First fighter who delivers for our state.”

Sullivan’s race against Peltola is already gearing up to be an expensive fight with national Democrats lining up behind Peltola in an effort to take back control of the U.S. Senate.

Begich’s main rival is a hard-leftist Anchorage pastor Matt Schulz, a man who supports abortion, participates in LGBTQ sexuality parades and is regularly seen at “No Kings” rallies and Black Live Matter demonstrations.
