In his bid to defeat challenger Mary Peltola, U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan picked up the endorsement of one of Alaska’s top groups working to support the state’s resource extraction economy.

On Feb. 25, the Alaska Support Industry Alliance (Alliance) – representing more than 550 companies that support Alaska’s oil, gas and mining industries – announced that it is backing Sullivan for re-election.

Alliance is a major player in Alaska’s oil and gas sector, advocating for responsible exploration, development, and production of the state’s oil, gas, energy, and mineral resources and promoting policies that ensure long-term economic benefits, fiscal stability, and growth through Alaska’s resource industries.

The Alliance first endorsed Senator Sullivan in 2014 – a rare move for an organization that typically refrains from political endorsements. In Sullivan’s bid to defeat left-wing Democrat challenger Mary Peltola, the group decided to enter the political fray.

In endorsing Sullivan, Alliance cited his “consistent support for responsible resource development, domestic energy production, Alaska’s mining sector and the advancement of Alaska’s LNG Project.

“Over the past six years, Senator Sullivan has demonstrated a clear and consistent commitment to policies that strengthen Alaska’s resource industries and the thousands of jobs they support,” said Skeet Black, Board President of the Alliance. “Oil, gas, mining and LNG development are foundational to Alaska’s economy and play an important role in America’s broader energy and mineral security.”

Alliance thanked Sullivan for supporting expanded access to federal lands and offshore areas that are critical to Alaska’s economy, while advocating for development within established regulatory frameworks. They also noted that he has supported policies aimed at sustaining long-term production of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, while advocating for federal engagement and regulatory clarity of U.S. LNG exports.

Other areas in which Alliance praised Sullivan include his support of domestic production of critical minerals essential to national security, his push to streamline federal permitting processes and reduce duplicative reviews to provide greater predictability for large-scale energy, mining, and infrastructure projects, and his willingness to push back against federal actions that threaten Alaska jobs, leases and development rights.

“Our endorsement reflects Senator Sullivan’s record of engagement, accessibility, and commitment to policies that support responsible development and economic opportunity in Alaska,” Black said.

The Alliance is a 46-year-old professional trade organization representing tens of thousands of workers across Alaska.
