A highly controversial bill, which critics say will undermine the fundamental rights of parents, has moved to the Alaska State House Rules Committee, where it could soon be scheduled for a final vote on the floor.
On March 9, the Democrat-controlled Health & Social Services Committee advanced House Bill 232 along a partisan line vote.
The legislation would give mental health counselors access to minors without parental knowledge or consent. This would include sessions that deal with gender-identity and sexual orientation. Introduced by vocal LGBTQ activist, Rep. Andrew Gray (D-Anchorage), the legislation mirrors wording contained in House Bill 36 and Senate Bill 90.
Proponents of such measures include numerous LGBTQ activist organizations that believe states should lower age-of-consent laws to give counselors access to minors without informing parents who might otherwise object.

If these bills pass, parental rights advocates are concerned that school-based counselors and gender clinics, such as Anchorage’s Identity Health Clinic, would be empowered to facilitate a minor’s gender transition while keeping parents in the dark.
With HB 232 now advanced to the Rules Committee, it is poised for a floor vote, as this committee serves as the final gatekeeper with authority to schedule legislation for consideration by the full body. Not all bills that reach the Rules Committee make it to the floor, however, as many remain there indefinitely. Additionally, the Rules Committee can hold its own hearings, propose amendments, or even create a rewritten substitute version of the bill.
If the bill is scheduled for a full vote, it will be read on the House floor, where members can then debate and offer amendments.

Any Legislator who votes to approve this needs to be hounded out of this state. They also need to have their own children removed from their custody immediately.

Kill these bills. SB 232, SB90 and HB 36. This is a direct attack on parents’ rights. These bills are against the law. Our President wrote Executive Orders outlawing these teachings and counseliing into these ideologies. . The reason that our legislators stole our Permanent Fund was to use the money to fund the LGBTQ teacher training and counseling into the dangerous lifestyle. These are anti-God bills that violate the Common Good of our communities. Standards of morality are not the function of the government. God our Creator has clearly written what are the moral standards for the common good and the the Scriptures and Church Pastors give sermons on those. The standards do not change over time. What does senator George rauscher think about this bill? Does he support it! How about a closer look than does he support it. Is he guilty of it! Chief of staff is a very close position, after all , it’s not like Valdez and rauscher worked in different states! Is it any wonder why parents withdraw their children from public schools and choose to homeschool them? Parents need to maintain control of school curriculums and actively prevent liberal activist teaches, councilors, and administers from mal-forming our children. Each and every time the liberal-minded take control of our institutions they drive them into the ground and conservative-minded parents understandably flee with their children. It’s no mystery that our public schools are emptying year by year – due to plummeting birth rates and parents removing their children from the influence of liberal educators.
We have local elections every year, my solution is that any that the state legislature must put on the ballot all bills they pass for the citizen to vote on before becoming law. The people of Alaska should have a voice in what bills get passed and not solely rely on the legislature to pass laws, budgets or any other legislative agenda without the consent of the people of Alaska. It is clear that our legislators aren’t looking out for the good of the citizens of the state and we the people should hold them accountable and be able to have the final say before the governor signs any bill without the peoples consent first.
