Sometimes you have to look for a story, sometimes it finds you. Today in Homer, I encountered a despicable organization called the 907 Initiative. I first ran into this group a year ago, when they covertly attempted to influence Representative Sarah Vance to support a piece of legislation. I wrote about that here.
I suggested at the time that their efforts violated tax law because, as a tax-exempt organization under IRS Section 501(c)(4), they are limited in the activities they may engage in. C4 organizations are supposed to have a social welfare mandate and operate in a public education role. Political campaigns are not supposed to be their primary activity. However, anyone who has visited their website will understand that the 907 Initiative is nothing more than a political lobbying organization, run by liberal partisans, with the intent of attacking conservatives and covertly advancing a leftist agenda under the pretext of “education.” They pretend to educate people but are actually acting like a Political Action Committee, pushing left-wing politics and attacking conservatives who oppose the Democrats.
I thought we had seen the last of them in Homer, but today I was visited by one of their representatives, who looked very much like the image that I had Grok Ai draw at the top of this article, mirrored sunglasses and all. The intent of this woman’s visit was to attack Senator Dan Sullivan in support of Mary Peltola, but she used a very deceptive way of trying to influence me.
They pretend to be nonpartisan but break their tax-exempt status when their only purpose is to go into the community and attempt to influence us to support left-wing politicians.
The young woman came to my front door and introduced herself. She said that she was from the 907 Initiative and conducting a poll. She asked me what my number one area of concern was in this year’s election. I started talking until I realized she was totally uninterested in my views and was simply waiting for me to stop so she could start her spiel.
When she did so, she asked me whether I was aware of all the bad votes Senator Sullivan has taken that have hurt Alaska. She went on describing these votes in a very biased political way. One item in particular I remember was her asking if I was aware that Senator Sullivan opposed clean energy and voted against it. I asked her to clarify, and she said he voted against renewable energy projects in Alaska, like wind and solar, and asked me what I thought. I honestly told her I thought that wind and solar are the most expensive forms of energy available. They have relatively short operating lives and generate a significant amount of end-of-life waste, such as wind turbine blades that often end up in landfills. I told her that solar panel waste contains heavy metals and makes a toxic mess when disposed of. Besides being expensive, they are one of the most polluting forms of energy there is. They don’t work at night, or if the wind doesn’t blow, and if Senator Sullivan voted against them, that was alright by me.
She didn’t care for my comments very much, and it was clear from her slanted spiel that this woman’s mandate was to attack Senator Sullivan in support of his Democrat opponent, Mary Peltola. Although, to be fair, the woman never mentioned Mary Peltola by name, it was clear what the point of the visit was. The woman was about to leave when I asked her one last question. I asked her to confirm that she worked for the 907 Initiative, to which she replied that she did, and then I asked her who provided the funding for her organization. Just before she walked off in a huff, she told me that I could find that information on their website, and that was the end of her visit.
ALASKA WATCHMAN DIRECT TO YOUR INBOX
Only she wasn’t being honest. I checked the website for the 907 Initiative. You can reach their website here. Nowhere on it does it say what their funding sources are. They are a secretive organization, likely funded through some sort of elaborate chain of NGO’s designed to keep the source of the money opaque and prevent citizens like you and me from finding out who is really trying to influence us. The upstream source of their funding is likely some wealthy individual like George Soros, who wants to covertly influence politics in Alaska on behalf of the Democrat party without being named.
The fact of the matter is that the 907 Initiative is a despicable partisan organization that favors left-wing politicians and their policies. They pretend to be nonpartisan but break their tax-exempt status when their only purpose is to go into the community and attempt to influence us to support left-wing politicians.
You know the Democrats are desperate when they use dirty political tricks to support Mary Peltola’s Senate run. Last week, they tried to run a candidate using the same last name as Senator Sullivan. This week, they are using the phony pollster scam. These are the same kind of deceptive practices you see from Democrats in leftist strongholds like California and Chicago. With respect to the 907 Initiative, one of Senator Sullivan’s Washington DC staffers should turn them into the IRS. They are acting outside their remit as a 501(c)(4) non-profit and should lose their tax-exempt status for doing so.
