The Oct. 6 election night returns in Fairbanks show committed leftist candidates winning all three borough assembly seats and each of the three school board seats that were up for grabs. A hard-left candidate also appears to have secured one of two Fairbanks City Council seats.
One bright spot for Fairbanks conservatives is the fact that City Council candidate Aaron Lojewski has a commanding lead in the race for Seat E. Lojewski identifies as a strong cultural conservative, according to recent survey questionnaires.
These results could change in the coming days, as 8.6% of borough precincts have not yet reported data, and 30% of city council precincts are still outstanding.
Additionally, there are still more than 1,200 absentee and questioned ballots, which will be counted on Oct. 13.
As of Oct. 7, however, all Planned Parenthood-backed candidates are ahead. This includes school board candidates Tim Doran, Bobby Burgess and Sean Holland, as well as borough assembly candidates Alexis Howell, Nick Lajiness and Scott Crass.
Two of these contests are close. Alexis Howell leads conservative Miguel Ramirez by just 124 votes in their borough assembly race, and School Board President Bobby Burgess leads conservative Jaimee Coon by 207 votes.

The rest of the races show left-leaning candidates with commanding leads.
Despite these results, conservatives have reason to celebrate the passage of Ballot Prop. 1, which maintains current limits on the maximum allowable tax revenues the borough can collect. Voters also appear to have passed Ballot Prop. 2, which will move all future municipal and city elections to align with general statewide elections in November. Conservatives support this change as a way of increasing voter turnout.
A third proposition aimed at banning voting machines and requiring all ballots to be hand counted was roundly defeated.
