Introduction editorial

This project is born of many prayers, careful reflection and late-night discussions. It’s now time to begin in earnest.

As most of you know, we live in a world of rapid political and cultural unrest. Alaska is no exception. Even the most fundamental beliefs and core convictions that have guided our society are unraveling. Navigating these times requires a clear vision of the good for which we strive and an understanding of the challenges ahead.

With this in mind, we have launched an independent news agency, distinct from any particular religious group or political party. We are grounded in traditional Judeo-Christian principles, the natural law and universal norms of morality.

While a number pro-life and family media outlets focus on national and international news, Alaska Watchman recognizes that most changes in society begin at the local level. By focusing on our state we aim to equip Alaskans with the knowledge to make a difference at the grassroots level here at home.

Our reports will provide accurate and extensive coverage on topics rarely touched by other local media outlets.

Our reports will provide accurate and extensive coverage on topics rarely touched by other local media outlets. Major issues we address include: marriage and family life, parental rights and duties, religious liberties, freedom of speech, abortion, end-of-life issues, bioethics, sex-education, pornography, gender ideology, education, arts and entertainment, and the role of religion in society.

Reporting on these issues will, at times, generate disagreement and debate, which means accuracy and professional journalism are of the highest priority. Our goal is to give Alaskans the big picture in order to bring about clarity and foster constructive dialogue that informs appropriate actions for the common good.

Our weekly online articles, columns and videos are available, free of charge, to be used by various organizations, publications, educators and political and religious groups across Alaska and beyond. These groups are welcome to provide headlines and links to articles on our website.

In order to ensure the broadest journalistic freedoms we are organized as a for-profit media company. This allows us to report on direct political actions and to cover specific political candidates and parties, as needed. To maintain a free online news service and website, we sell advertising, offer sponsorships and accept donations from readers.

Our staff, writers and advisory board members are comprised of people from a variety of religious backgrounds. Our journalists are primarily from Alaska. They include professional reporters, videographers and columnists.

Ultimately, this project will require extensive collaboration with many allies. We want to form partnerships all across Alaska. Whether you are a concerned individual or represent an organization or religious group, send us news tips and let us know of events, challenges and inspiring stories so that we can bring light to the most pressing issues of our day.

We look forward to serving you.
