Abortionists in Alaska legally resumed surgical abortions on May 4 as state health mandates prohibiting non-essential procedures were lifted. But it appears as if the largest provider of abortions never stopped, despite direct orders to the contrary.
On April 7 Gov. Mike Dunleavy issued an update to a health mandate, specifically listing surgical abortions among dozens of other non-urgent procedures that had to be temporarily suspended as the state built up medical supplies to deal with COVID-19. The mandate impacted the practice of dentists, chiropractors, knee surgeons and many others.
Planned Parenthood, however, claims it continued unabated despite the order.
According to the mandate, providers were to “postpone surgical abortion procedures unless the life or physical health of the mother is endangered by continuation of the pregnancy.”

“In certain states, our political opponents have decided to take advantage of the pandemic to further their anti-choice agenda and restrict the essential services we provide to the community,” Planned Parenthood stated. “In both Indiana and Alaska, attempts to deem abortion as “non-essential” have not stopped us from providing these services.”
The company went on to claim that it intended to “keep all our services available to patients who need them – including abortion.”
Three abortion centers in Alaska had “full schedules” the day after an Gov. Dunleavy’s executive order came out.
“Our health centers are busy. We have not closed a single clinic and we’re fighting to keep our doors open everywhere,” stated Dr. Kara Cadwallader, the chief medical officer for the Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and Hawaiian Islands, the chapter that oversees Alaska.
The article defiantly states, “Any efforts to restrict our patients’ access to abortion services, reproductive health care and general health care during this global pandemic will be fought tooth and nail.”
Cadwallader said three abortion centers in Alaska had “full schedules” the day after Gov. Dunleavy’s executive order went into effect. She said legal teams dropped everything and “scrambled to make sure” the company could continue killing babies through abortion.
“Within 24 hours, we had done a full legal analysis and complied with those orders, and those patients did not have to cancel or reschedule their abortions,” she said.
In fact, business was only minimally impacted in terms of in-person visits, according to Planned Parenthood.

In continuing to perform all its services during the COVID-19 crisis, Planned Parenthood admits that it has struggled to acquire needed medical gear for which hospitals around the nation have competed.
“Like other health care providers across the nation, we are experiencing a shortage of medical grade protective gear for our staff,” the article states.
In order to avoid negative public backlash, Planned Parenthood cautioned its supporters against issuing public campaigns to gather the needed PPE for the abortion business.
“Please do not create any calls for donations on social media or other public-facing venues for PPE,” Planned Parenthood stated. It claimed that pro-life groups were monitoring these efforts and “using social media to accuse Planned Parenthood of needlessly consuming PPE and threatening the health of others.”
