Senator Dan Sullivan plans to hold campaign rallies in five Alaska communities over the next week. He will make stops in Fairbanks, the Mat-Su Valley, Anchorage, Soldotna and Juneau in an effort to kick off his reelection campaign.

Sullivan’s main challenger for the U.S. Senate is Al Gross who is running in the Democratic primary. He is endorsed by Planned Parenthood, the company that performs the majority of abortion in Alaska each year. They hail Gross as a “champion” who will resist President Trump and Sullivan – both of who oppose taxpayer funding of abortion and support pro-life measures.

Gross has significant campaign war chest and some polls show that he and Sullivan are in a close race. The Cook Political Report, which analyzes national races, states that Alaska’s senate race is one that could break for the Democrats.

“While it’s one that Sullivan remains heavily favored in, it merits watching and a move in our ratings,” Cook Political Report says. “We are moving Alaska from Solid to Likely Republican.

Sullivan was elected in 2014 when he defeated incumbent Democrat Mark Begich by a narrow margin – 47.9% to 45.8% – in the general election.

Here are Sullivan’s campaign stops over the next week.

  • Fairbanks: Thursday, July 9, at Omni Logistics Hangar from 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Mat-Su Valley: Friday, July 10, at New Horizon’s Hanger from 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Anchorage: Saturday, July 11, at ROTAK Helicopter’s Hangar from 5-6:30 p.m.
