Archbishop Andrew Bellisario, who oversees the Catholic Church across Southcentral and Southeast Alaska, is celebrating a Mass for Life on Jan. 23 in Anchorage.
The service is in conjunction with the National Prayer Vigil for Life, which is held each year on the eve of the Jan. 24 March for Life in Washington, D.C., when thousands of pilgrims from across the nation flock to the nation’s capital to pray for an end to abortion and a greater respect for all human life.
The Anchorage service will begin at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral. Following the Mass, there will be an ecumenical, pro-life candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. on the sidewalk outside the Anchorage Planned Parenthood abortion center (4001 E Lake Otis). Youth from Students for Life will be speaking and leading prayer at the outside gathering.
Pro-life advocates from all backgrounds are invited to attend both events.
While the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in 2022, abortion remains legal in many states across the nation, including Alaska.
