The National Education Association, which includes an estimated 11,000 Alaska educators, has a new radical, anti-Trump, anti-immigration enforcement, anti-parental rights and pro-LGBTQ agenda, which it will be working to advance in Alaska and across the nation in the coming year.

Corey DeAngelis

At the NEA’s annual national gathering in Portland last month, the country’s largest teachers’ union approved a slew of resolutions that aim to harness publicly-funded education to advance its hardline, leftist ideology.

The resolutions, which were voted on by some 7,000 delegates, including several Alaska educators, were obtained by national school-choice champion, Corey DeAngelis, who was in Alaska last summer to promote homeschooling, religious and private education as alternatives to boilerplate, brick-and-mortar government schools. DeAngelis was the keynote speaker for the 2024 Family Fun Fair in Anchorage.

“I just received a copy of the National Education Association’s resolutions that they passed at their annual convention,” Corey announced July 7 on his X account. “They kept them private this year.”

Many of the NEA resolutions are tailored to undermine core conservative values, which the NEA views as toxic to their notion of “quality education.”

One of the resolutions pledges to “defend democracy against Trump’s embrace of fascism by using the term facism (misspelled in the original NEA document) in NEA materials to correctly characterize Donald Trump’s program and actions.”  This resolution added that NEA members must be committed to the “survival of civilization itself” in fighting against Trump.

Another resolution emphasized that the NEA will use its existing media channels to oppose Trump’s effort to eliminate the massive federal Department of Education, characterizing the plan as an “illegal, anti-democratic, and racist attempt to destroy public education.”

Other resolutions railed against Trump’s efforts to end birthright citizenship, or to deport illegal aliens, while affirming the NEA’s deep-seated commitment to defiantly persist in advancing LGBTQ ideology.

One adopted resolution was passed in direct response to the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision which affirmed a parent’s right to remove their children from classes that push controversial notions of gender fluidity and sexuality. That resolution affirmed that the NEA will provide local school boards with boilerplate resolutions that they can use to protect teachers who push LGBTQ ideology onto students. The NEA also intends to publish a “Know Your Rights” document for teachers who act as LGBTQ activists, and to hold virtual meetings with its members to let them know how they can still “continue to advocate for LGBTQ+ students in this political environment.”

On the legislative and policy front the NEA has resolved to marshal its extensive network of retired and current members to oppose state laws that go against the union’s agenda.

Other resolutions affirmed support for the recent anti-Trump “No Kings Protests.”

In addition to approving the above resolutions, the NEA also bestowed one of its highest honors, “Friend of Education,” to a leading opponent of school choice – Josh Cowen. The award specifically honored Cowen’s work at undermining school-choice voucher programs that seek to empower parents with the ability to choose homeschool or private educational alternatives for their children.

Seems like the NEA and its vast trove of “educators” lack concern for the one thing that should matter most – the children. What a shame that this is where society has devolved to.

This is a little “off the topic”, but I thought fascism was when the government took over commerce and would only allow citizens to buy from said government. An example of this is Cuba. I don’t understand how President Trump could ever be accused of fascism. He wants to extend U.S. ingenuity, not negate it. The left needs to define the word and stop fibbing.

President Trump needs to defund the Department of Labor. This is the department where unions hide out. We appreciate Corey’s sleuthing so that we know plans of the NEA. The Right to Work movement is to remove the power from the unions in a free market setting. For example, the AFL-CIO on the East Coast has sent thousands of dollars to support candidates that would otherwise have been recalled. This involvement is just one example of the unions overpowering and “fixing” elections to secure their power which is not to help the citizens of the Alaska. Our most recent state legislators who lied to win their seat, should be working for Alaskan citizens but instead are working to rob the State of Alaska of funds for their own deviant purposes such as what is reported as “resolutions” coming out of their convention. Our president Trump is working to get us back to using the original Constitution, Bill of Rights and Ten Commandments, and Rule of Law… Decisions need to be made through our Constitutional Republic (See the Pledge of Allegiance.) Our president is doing his job. His so-called firings are what are truthfully called RIF “Reductions in Force” which have happened under most of the presidents since Teddy Roosevelt. People who break the law need to pay the consequences including criminals and illegals. All citizens in the US are equal and should be adjudicated justly. The universities that promote education against our country are being treasonous and need to be defunded as our President is doing. The Department of Education is where much of the anti-god, anti-family and anti-Capitalism ideology is being pushed through the government schools and universities.. This is insubordination and treasonous School Choice is the answer for our schools. “We The People” should decide,, not the counter cultural “leaders” who want to destroy America and are in the NEA, AFT, and AFL-CIO and other unions. We recommend the dissolving of the Department of Labor and of Education. BTW Did you know that DEI is discriminatory against “white men?” Some of us did not know that.. Believe in the power of prayer and be praying for our country, our state. and local communities…Pray that the truth be known and an elimination of corruption in our governrments.
