President Trump has approved a federal disaster declaration for the State of Alaska due to the 2025 West Coast Storm.
According to an Oct. 22 statement from the president, Alaska will receive $25 million in federal aid.
Gov. Mike Dunleavy requested the declaration following discussions with Trump immediately following the storm. The declaration means federal assistance is now on the way for a multitude of recovery programs from reconstruction to unemployment assistance to disaster loans for small businesses.

“President Trump was deeply concerned with the wellbeing of Alaskans who lost their homes and livelihoods to this historic storm,” Dunleavy stated on Oct. 22. “I want to thank him and his administration for approving the disaster declaration because now Alaskan families have local, state and federal support for rebuilding their lives in the months ahead.”
The federal disaster declaration authorizes a 100% federal cost share for all categories of relief assistance for the next 90 days. The Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will coordinate with the Federal Emergency Management Agency on all recovery operations and programs.
“This declaration will be instrumental for ongoing response and recovery efforts,” Dunleavy posted to Facebook. “I want to thank President Trump and his administration for the continued support of Alaska and providing help for Alaska during this time of need. Thank you President Trump!”

There is good in this Administration and the country, good citizens are stepping forward to help someone injured or just in need. Praise to them.
We need to Do better on the build back. Not so close to the Water and ensure better sanitation and housing. Not just dump money and run because we will be back doing it again . Musk sells those efficient homes that could be elevated to avoid high water. They sell Cremation Toilets that are sanitary. We can help them with this money to be safer and healthier.
They have been moving Newtok to Mertarvik for the last couple years. No reason not to move Kipnuk and others that were destroyed also.
Something like these houses with built in flood protection might be the way to go.
