To the delight of Alaska’s leftwing establishment and Democrats nationally, former U.S. Congresswoman Mary Peltola has announced that she is running against Republican U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan in this year’s midterm elections.

In a two-minute video posted on Jan. 12, Peltola said she was running because so-called “D.C. people” don’t listen to Alaska.

Without naming who the “D.C. people” are, Peltola proceeded to malign the unidentified enemy, claiming they are responsible for what she called “scarcity” when it comes to Alaska salmon, large game and migratory birds.

She also blamed the “D.C. people” for expensive milk in the villages and blasted them for benefiting from a “rigged system in D.C. that is shutting down Alaska while politicians feather their own nest.”

Peltola’s brief political career began when she won special and regular elections in 2022 against Nick Begich and Sarah Palin. In 2024, however, she was ousted by Rep. Nick Begich as Republicans took control of both Congress and the presidency.

Her bid to defeat Sullivan is part of a larger effort by national Democrats to claw back control of the U.S. Senate.

Peltola, however, knows she is running in a state that twice elected President Trump and rarely sends a Democrat to D.C.

Her campaign-launching video attempts to suggest that she is somehow aligned with the late Republican lawmakers Ted Stevens and Don Young, whom she said, “ignored Lower-48 partisanship to fight for things like public media and disaster relief.”

She also said she will fight for “lower energy prices” and affordable housing, while adhering to Ted Stevens’ famous quote, “To hell with politics, put Alaska first.”

Aside from the political rhetoric, Peltola will likely face tough questions related to her support for former President Joe Biden and his administration’s actions to block energy and resource development in Alaska, leading to lengthy and expensive legal challenges to defend Alaska state rights.

Her campaign also comes at a time when Alaska is unlocking long delayed resource development in the oil, gas and timber fields thanks to actions taken by GOP-controlled Congress and President Trump.

While serving as Alaska’s lone U.S. Representative from 2022 to 2024, Peltola backed bills in favor of gay marriage and abortion, while opposing parental rights legislation and voting to allow non-U.S. citizens to be counted in allotting U.S. House seats and electoral votes.

In 2024, amid mounting concerns about President Biden’s mental health, she famously defended his ability to lead the country

“I think that Joe Biden’s mental acuity is very, very on. He’s one of the smartest, sharpest people I’ve met in DC,” Peltola said.

Epic! I love it when leftist-empty heads like Mary Petola latch on to the positions of others of prominence who have died and can no longer deny their pathetic attempts at political affiliation.
Like a leech. Mary Petola wants to pretend to be a representative again.

  • Willy Keppel says:

    WHOA ‼️
For once I’m agreeing with LISA MURKOWSKI. Lisa is backing Dan Sullivan and for a ton of good reasons…

The number one reason is Mary is on the wrong side of most every important issue.

Alaska Democrat party is against the oil and gas industry in Alaska. They made that decision part of their State platform two years ago at their State Convention in Juneau..

What does that say to the YK Delta after the big announcement from AVEC that they were requesting a RATE HIKE of 14.5% from the State Regulatory Board last week?

Hey Mary ‼️ the Bethel Census area averages 74.64¢ a kwh already…and Mary wants all this commercial brain dead green energy crap….

Mary hasn’t lived in Bethel in years. Like her buddy Lyman Hoffman, she had a crash pad to pretend and claim that she’s a rural Anchorage resident to be able to illegally throw a net for subsistence openers…go away Mary.

  • PlacerMiningInstitute says:

    peltola serves Singh and Soros
fully supports criminal enterprise and government grift of the “noble native tribes”
bribed by laundered US taxpayers’ money via USAID and DFA NOGs

  • Ed says:

Peltola wants to play the RCV card again; it’s worked well for her before. Naturally, the DNC will double-down on their efforts to deceive confused voters about the need for RCV. More outside “dark money” to interfere in our local elections should be expected next.

  • Penny Seliger says:

Why didn’t she vote for matters of Alaska importance in the last six months of her term? She always seemed to disappear when issues concerning Alaska came up? Nick Begich did more in the first six months than she did her whole term. Questions Alaskans need to ask her.

  • Tamra Nygaard says:

Do nothing Mary is back at it. Who is footing the bill for her?

  • Johnny says:

I think its great the center for public broadcasting wont be around to spew lies this time around, if shes running on merit it don’t look good at all, lol.

    • JenL says:

Johnny, I am thinking I read not long ago Murkowski did a sneaky workaround to keep taxpayer funded fake news (NPR, PBS, aka CPB) alive and well in Alaska. I would need to research it but it would not surprise me with Princess Lisa.

  • David Shoemaker says:

She is supported by OUTSIDE money that has OUTSIDE interest in controlling our state. They talk of saving the migratory birds and milk while taking actions that gut our State’s economy and make things MORE expensive.
It is truly sickening. I view her running as a threat even though she is a joke and a real underdog. People are just shy of real education to the point of falling for her OUTSIDE campaign’s fake alignment with our state’s former politicians. Speak openly and shed the light on her policy and real intentions every chance you get. Don’t let the EXCESSIVE slander ads on Sullivan take root. Make these people’s OUTSIDE money get wasted and poured into a fruitless hole.

  • The Four Horsemen says:

Well, whoever wins the US Senate race just vote along with Rand Paul on trying to audit the Federal Reserve central bank.

    At least try!

    • JenL says:

The Four Horseman, and you honestly believe Mary Peltola(D) would ever do that?

      • James says:

I would like to hope so! After doing my research and going to the Senate website, Dan did voted in favor of Rand Paul’s amendment to try and audit the Fed in the Senate. That’s good!

  • The Primaries are CRITICALLY IMPORTANT says:

“Peltola, however, knows she is running in a state that twice elected President Trump and rarely sends a Democrat to D.C.” LOL
Of all the campaigns and dirty deeds that will be used to get her elected, it will be our own very nefariously useful ballot issues that will tip the scales – as usual – RCV, mail-in ballots, endless counting, corruptable tabulation machines, questionable voter rolls and a huge issue – just plain lazy voters.
Anyone out there still trust the Alaska election process? If so, raise your hand (and slap yourself in the face with it).
It is already obvious that the Democrats are working on the kill shots to get back the House and Senate. We have proof that they will do anything to get there and are especially apt at selling their own souls Ka CHING!!!
Anyone know if MP has aligned herself with the DSP yet? Wonder if there are already donations from the socialists who are overtaking and replacing the Democrat Party?
Example: Has anyone seen the ads running between programs on YouTube trashing Senator Sullivan. I have made notes of the organization that is paying for them, I can tell you they are not of this state. The ads use outright lies and horrible photos of Sullivan. They are slanderous and outragious.
    Let the games begin.
    God save our Country.

  • Shane Holt says:

didnt wise up last time eh. her lies about biden ” being on top of his game” were pathetic.
and the hypocrite blames DC people , after being a DC person. what a great strategy.
    hilarious.

  • Patrick henry says:

Chuck Schumer isn’t concerned if Mary doesn’t show up for work, but he is worried that Dan does. Mary missed **40%** of her votes, one of the highest rates in the House, while Dan has only missed **2.9%**, one of the lowest numbers in the Senate. If you or I missed **40%** of our work, we wouldn’t be surprised if our boss fired us. Interestingly, Mary’s actual boss—the Alaskan people, not Chuck Schumer—did fire her. So why is Chuck trying to bring back “no-show” Mary? It’s no wonder Chuck is aligned with a party that struggles to get things done.

  • jon says:

Vote Peltola for sanity in government.

  • AK Fish says:

Guess she got bored working “so hard” at Holland and Hart law and lobbying firm as the senior director of Alaska affairs, based at the firm’s Anchorage office. Her former top aide in Congress, Anton McParland, is the senior director of federal affairs out of the Holland & Hart offices in Anchorage and Washington, D.C.. THIS is the BEST the democrats have to put forward as a candidate for Alaska’s U.S. Senator. I find it ironic she says she wants to fight D.C. corruption and corporate interests (that will no doubt be bankrolling her campaign for U.S. Senate). .

  • Herman Nelson says:

Greeeaaat.. “I’m out fishing” Mary running for office again. What’s more important, Mary fishing or Mary in DC..? Naaa.. Mary can stay home and focus on fishing.

    • Steve Peterson says:

Truth! It was a saving grace when she wasn’t there to vote with her cronies. Even still she missed some votes whereby she could have benefitted Alaska but chose to be missing. But hey, maybe in those times she was learning to use a spinning rod correctly.
