A top national political organization that helps to elect conservative women across the country is supporting Kelly Tshibaka’s campaign to unseat Sen. Lisa Murkowski.

Initially reported by Fox News on Dec. 22, the group called Maggie’s List gave its endorsement to Tshibaka. It was the first time since the organization’s founding in 2010 that it decided to support a challenger to a female Republican incumbent of the either the U.S. Senate or House, Fox News reported.

“I am grateful for the endorsement of Maggie’s List because it shows that a new generation of strong, conservative women are taking leading roles in rescuing people from the excesses of a runaway and overreaching federal government,” Tshibaka said on her website.

Tshibaka is campaigning on a platform that includes support for the First and Second Amendment, religious liberty, smaller government, lower taxes and election integrity reform, among other issues. She has also stated that she is “proudly pro-life.”

According to the Maggie’s List website, the organization “provides training and get-out-the-vote programs as well as critical financial support for female candidates for the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate.” The group focuses on electing candidates “who promote fiscal conservatism, less government, more personal responsibility and strong national security.”

The local Alaska state chair for Maggie’s List is Alaska State Representative Cathy Tilton, of Wasilla. She currently serves as the House Minority Leader.

Murkowski, once thought of as a “moderate” Republican, has increasingly allied herself with the cultural and political left on issues like abortion and the LGBTQ agenda. She was also one of just seven Republican senators to join all 50 Democrats in voting unsuccessfully to convict former President Trump in his impeachment trial earlier this year.

Tshibaka is endorsed by Trump, who has repeatedly said he would travel to Alaska to help her defeat Murkowski.

For her part, Murkowski enjoys the support of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which helps U.S. Senators seeking reelection. Likewise, Senate GOP leader Sen. Mitch McConnell has pledged to back Murkowski’s reelection effort, as has Sen. Dan Sullivan. Additionally, the McConnell-aligned Senate Leadership Fund, the top outside super PAC supporting Senate Republicans, has also endorsed Murkowski.
